Show#70 -07/15/12- Neil Ellwood Interview

Jul 16, 2012 37:04

I'm back again for what is turning out to be a once yearly podcast. How did I ever do this weekly back in 2005? Today's interview is with Neil Ellwood, age 22. He grew up all over Canada and is a smart young man who is a fan of the show, and has thought about the questions. I love talking to young adults, as they always make me ponder if I lost the fresh view of life!

Show #68 -01/01/2011- Interview with Terry

Jan 2, 2011 33:49

I'm back! And hopefully done with all the surgery crap.

I'm starting another round of guests. I start with an old friend to ease back into things and get my editing and tools back on track.

This interview is with Terry, age 62 - founding member of the Lady Poetesses from Hell. She is sweet and quirky, and a very kind soul. Enjoy!

Show #67 -04/11/2010- Creativity vs. Hormones, Who am I really?

Apr 12, 2010 20:51

After another long haitus, more surgery, I suddenly pop back in with a new show.

No guest, just something that has been preying on my mind over the last year.

I ask a lot of questions around Creativity, and if it is caused by our hormones only and what do you do when they go away? Can you still be creative? I ask the listeners to send me email or audio on their ideas on the subject. I really am looking for the answer to this one, so I hope you all participate!

My email address is:

Gmail takes files up to about 20Mb, so if you record audio - send it to me at 64 or 96 kbps, and if it is too big, break it up into a couple of emails. Otherwise send me an email on your ideas and I'll read it on a follow up show to this one. Thanks everyone! I hope to hear from you!

Show #66 -07/17/2009- Steven Brust Interview

Jul 20, 2009 35:58

After a year of retirement from the show - I was tempted out by an interview with New York Times best selling Science Fiction and Fantasy writer Steven Brust.

He is warm, wry, funny and personable - a delightful interview!

To learn more about Steven, here is a link to a Wikipedia page on him:
Steven Brust Wiki Page.

My email address has changed - I can be reached at:

Who knows what the future will bring. Will I be tempted back out of
retirement by another irresistible guest? Stay tuned!

Surprise Return from Retirement

Jun 30, 2009

It appears my one month hiatus turned into a year.

Things took a long time to turn around. But I was tempted out of
retirement by a very special guest. Look for a show shortly, when
I get the edit done!

Another haitus - sorry, folks!

Aug 18, 2008

Hey all. It looks like I'm going to take a month off.
Poor health, and a dying dog, and too much work stress have done me in.

I'm not going to do the show this month. Check back next month, and
I hope things have improved!

Show #65-07/19/2008- Mikko Interview and 3rd Anniversary Show!

Jul 20, 2008 54:00

Welcome to the 3rd Anniversary show of Uncomfortable Questions!
This is a very fun interview with a guest from Finland. I loved doing this one. I talk to Mikko, age 31 -
Transhumanist, do-gooder and Asshole.

He is delightfully cheeky, and a deep thinker. Some of the concepts he
presents are not immediately intuitive, so he sent me a link to a 1 page paper he wrote on his philosophy.
Please read it, it is funny and makes things a lot clearer. Get it at:

The link Mikko mentions on the show for the Singularity Institute is at:

Also a link to more information on Transhumanism -

Show #64 -06/15/08- Late to the Universe and other musings

Jun 16, 2008 15:28

I'm back! This is a short show, to get me back on track after surgery, and
too much life in general.

A listener sent me in a 10 minute piece for her own podcast that was her
answer to the "What Is the Universe?" show that I did a few months ago.
Check her out at

I included her piece and also went on with some musings of my own on
"Is Life Fair - And Should It Be?".

Send me your own thoughts or comments at (if you want to send a sound file, use this one - it can handle upwards of 20MB files - or you can send mail also to :

Next show is my 3rd Anniversary show, and I hope to bring you something really special.

Short Haitus

May 19, 2008

If you are wondering where the heck I am, due to some unexpected
surgery, I'm busy healing at this time.

It looks like I'll end up taking a month off from the show, while I
recover and get back on my feet (literally - it was foot surgery.)

Check back in a few weeks, and hopefully I'll have a show up.

Show #63 -05/13/2008- Dan L. Interview

Apr 14, 2008 38:54

This turned out to be a very different show. I interview Dan L.,
age 62, a free thinker from Texas. He was a career military man, and
I was interested to hear about life from him, as I have little contact
with that world.

He was unsurprisingly quite the realist, but did surprise me with the
depth to which he believed in empowering people and elevating humanity.

There is a lot of talk of politics, which I try to avoid, but it tied in so much
with the views of how governments should use the military, so I left it all in.
Take it as another world view, whether you agree with it or not!

Show #62 -03/02/08- Christy Interview

Mar 3, 2008 36:55

Today we go back to the traditional interview format, and talk
to Christy, age 25 - A free spirited Engineer.

Sorry this one is so late - I collided with the nasty flu going around
that the flu shot doesn't protect you against. Followed by another
cold - 4th one this winter. Do I get a prize for collecting them all?!!

Send me email at:

Volunteers to do the show are always in demand!

Show #61 -01/27/08- Exploring and Transcending the Me

Jan 28, 2008 10:48

This is a non-traditional single question show. I got only 3 answers on last months question to the audience:
If we are here for a reason, are we here to explore the me, or
transcend the me?

The ones who braved the question were:
- Big Phil, from show #36 - of Big Phil's Love Parade
- Graviton Ring, show #48
- Christy - (a guest of my roommate who was wandering through the house. Yes I will go to any lengths to get answers - no one is safe!).

As always, email me at:

Next month we will have a full traditional interview with my new found victim, Christy!

Show #60-12/24/07- Explore the me, transcend the me?

Dec 25, 2007 20:45

Welcome! Today's Christmas Eve show is in 2 parts.
First we hear a late answer to the "What is the Universe?" show from
Herb - a delightful professor from Texas who was the guest on show

Then I ask a new question for the audience and look at it a little myself.
This show's question, is:
If we are here for a reason, are we here to explore the me, or
transcend the me?

Please send your answers to me at

The files can be audio .mp3 recordings of yourself answering it,
or just type up your answer in an email, and I'll read it on the next show.
Gmail can handle file sized of about 20 MB (17 MB realistically,
with overhead). If your file is larger, please send it in parts, in
successive emails.

Please write or send me audio for the next show by January 26th.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Show #59 -11/24/07- Michael Interview

Nov 25, 2007 43:05

Today I ask the big questions of Michael, age 33, and Objectivist with a soul. He is from the Greater Minneapolis area, and we met to record in a park on the most glorious of late fall days.

We got into depression, alcoholism, and coming out of all that into a more
hopeful view of life and the universe. Michael was a most open, honest, heartwarming person. I adored doing this interview.

And as always, email me at:

Show #58 -10/21/07- Answers to What is the Universe?

Oct 22, 2007 31:11

This show is the answers to the question posed last month -
What is the Universe? 6 people tackled the question in this new
experimental format.

We heard from :
- David C., from show #34
- Graviton Ring, show #48 -
- Darren Blackshaw, a new listener
- DragonLordALS, from NASA and show #51
- Anthony, show #31 -
- Cayenne, show #1 -

I loved the show, with philosophies from way out there, to the
hard sciences. Thanks everyone for participating!

Let me know if you like this format or the old style interview, or maybe
would like a mix of both?

Write to me or volunteer for an interview at:

Plea for answers to last show!

Oct 7, 2007

Hey all! My new format isn't working.
I asked for emal answers (or recorded sound - .mp3 files)
as answers to the question I posed in the last show -
"What is the Universe".

Sadly I have only received 2 email answers so far, and the
deadline was yesterday. I don't have enough material to do the
next show.

I'm changing the deadline to October 13th, in the hopes that I get more.
Please participate!

Thanks so much -

Show #57 -09/16/07-What is the Universe?

Sep 17, 2007 08:33

This is a special show. Today I ask the big question:
What is the Universe?
to the listening audience.
Please look at the Hubble Deep Space picture at:

Ponder this picture, think about the Universe and send me sound (mp3)
files (64 kb is fine, 96, or 128 kb is good too) - or send an email
with the thoughts and answers to this question.

I'll read or play the files on the next show. I try to start tackling the
question myself on this show, and hope to have better conclusions after I hear from all of you.

Please send your mp3 recorded answers or your email answers to:

I will need the answers by October 5th, so I can get the show up by the
following week. Please, please, please join in the conversation!
I need you!

Show #56 -08/18/07-Corey Interview

Aug 20, 2007 45:12

Today we get philosophy according to Corey, age 21.
He is a Vegan, male prostitute from Minnesota. A monophobic who
loves philosophy and people. (Oh yeah, and sex).

It is a charming, irrepressible, and slightly nilistic combination. What fun it was to talk with him!

I'm exploring the possibility of changing the show. I just passed my 2 year
anniversary of the podcast, and am rapidly losing audience for the last 2 shows. I suspect you might be getting a little bored?

One idea is to ask one "big question" each show, and ask for listeners
to send in .mp3's or email with their answers. Of course that would depend
on you all getting involved. What do you think?

Show #55 -07/24/07-Drew Interview

Jul 25, 2007 37:04

MC/VL - a rapidly rising Minneapolis based band.

Show #54 -06/25/07-Linda Interview

Jun 27, 2007 41:19

Today's show is with Linda, age 59. She is from Salt Lake City, retired from State employment, and having the time of her life. She sang for 20 years in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, traveled all over, taught the sight impaired, and has had quite the interesting life.

I found her straightforward, yet such a kind person. Religious, yet open to anyone and full of mirth. I totally enjoyed talking with Linda!

Show #53 -04/27/07- Steve the Dean Interview

May 28, 2007 44:47

Today we ask the big questions of Steve the Dean Williams, age 35. He has several podcasts on relationships at

He is a most enjoyable talker, and this show ends up being mostly about
relationships and sex. Give it a listen!

The song at the end of the show is the long promised song (from previous
guests Alex and Lyndon and their band 3 Blind Mice) from their new
CD release Good Grief. The song is my person favorite off that CD -
How Will I Know? Their CD's are available on itunes, or visit their
web page at

The song I play at the end of the show is from previous guests Alex and Lyndon and their band 3 Blind Mice. It is from the CD - Before They Were Famous - vol 1 - and the song is one of my all time favorites The Bear Lies Down. You can get their music from "itunes" or their website:

Mar 19, 2007 45:12

Todays interview is with DragonLordALS (his web handle). He is a 20-year-old Computer Science major at Drexel University. The show turns out to be a fascinating view of the world from a mathematician and fractal artist.

Please check out DragonLordALSs fractal art at  The art is really beautiful!

And in the news, 3 Blind Mice have a new CD out! They are previous guests:  Alex,is the February 19th interview from last year, and Lyndon, the March 5th interview from 2006.

The final song I play on the show is: from the CD Before They Were Famous, Volume 2. The song is Emily Has Compassion Fatigue- my favorite song at the moment. You can visit the 3 Blind Mice web page at:
Most of their music is also available on itunes.
There should be a new Channel Surfing Wipeout up, this week, after a hiatus of 8 months or so at

Show #50 -02/18/07- Charlie Interview

Feb 19, 2007 47:13

Join me in when Charlie takes on the "big questions". Charles is age 54, a psychologist, originally from Texas, now resides in Oregon.

We wandered off in many directions from the questions, as I was interested to see how a psychologist would view the uncomfortable questions. We also had our super-geek moments! What we got was a lot of laughter and fun.

Attatched is a ghoulish Halloween picture of Charlie! Can you imagine meeting your psychologist dressed like that?

And please email me at

If this is all too serious, tune into Cayenne Chris Conroy's absurd comedy show at . It will make you a better person. Really!

Show #49 -01/28/07- DeAnne Interview

Jan 29, 2007 36:43

Today's delightful show is a Skype interview with DeAnne, age 41.
She is a Musician, Social Worker, Transcriberix, and happens to be blind.

She is a most lovely person to talk to, spiritual without being religious, funny, questioning of everything, and I totally adored her.

My favorite parts are her view of Hope as "Spiritual Gravity", and her final words of advice kept me laughing for some time.

I'm adding a photo of DeAnne that was just sent, a Halloween picture. Fun!

Show #48 -01/07/07- Graviton Ring Interview

Jan 8, 2007 47:00

I'm back on my feet for the new year, with Graviton Ring (as he is known on the web), age 67, science fiction and story writer, and armchair cosmologist.

This one is way out there, I scraped most of the questions and just tried to
follow him where he was going, and he struggled with putting into words, concepts that just didn't fit well into words.

What a great ride! Join us, and enjoy the show!

He is a record producer and the president of StandUp! Records.

Nov 13, 2006 56:04

Today, Sheila from Canada takes on the Big Questions. She is 22 \
years old, and is a Biology student interested in consciousness.
She was a complete delight to talk to, and I didn't want to stop!
I left the show a little long because I enjoyed her answers so much,
I didn't want to cut very much of our conversation at all.

Don't miss the 2nd half of the show where we discuss the chemistry
of Love!

As always, send me email at:

Show #45 -10/15/06- Andrew Interview

Oct 16, 2006 48:10

Today we have a Skype interview with Andrew, age 36 who takes on the big questions of life. He is the father of 2 preschoolers, happily married, and a self described "featureless cubicle boy". Andrew is from England, and now living in the states.

We talked for over 2 hours! I had to cut the show down to something manageable, and I think you will find him warm, funny, and wise. His views are that of a scientist who thinks the evidence for telepathy and things of that sort are rather compelling. It is a delightful and unique take we haven't heard yet on U.Q. I know you will enjoy this show!

Show #44 -9/24/06- Dana Interview

Sep 25, 2006 57:25

This show is a Skype interview with Dana, age 29, the girl with pink hair from St. Johns, Newfoundland. Dana is the creator of the podcast BLARM at

Dana takes on the "big questions" with intelligence, humor, and laughter -
and at the end we discuss sex, love, what the heck it is guys want, and body image problems of women - like two girlfriends chatting on the phone.

The show is over a week late, because I hopelessly tried to get 100 delightful minutes with Dana, down to a managable 50 minutes. An impossible task!
Join in the fun, and give it a listen.

This is the Uncomfortable Questions 1 year Anniversary Show.

We had an amazing, wonderful talk, on dealing with a religious town while being an Athiest, how being a diabetic from the age of 3 changes your views of life, the facinating story of divorcing his wife to save their deep frienship of 13 years, and many other subjects. This is a don't miss episode!

Jake is also one of the hosts on Choose The Left podcast, a funny and
quirky show he does with his ex-wife Erin. It made the top 10 in the Podcast Pickle Cast Wars. Congratulations Jake and Erin!

Show #39 -06/17/06- Lynoure Interview

Jun 18, 2006 53:01

This is a special show - and Skype interview to Lynoure, Age 30, Linux Geek from Finland!! She and I overcame many technical problems for 2 hours, just to get the Skype connection that allowed us to do the interview. But she stayed with me, and the results are worthi it!

Lynoure is a darling, and we talked not only about the big questions, but got a Finnish cultural perspective on many things, and we ended with a discussion on solipsism ( a theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing), and overcomming depression. To say nothing of superpowers! Enjoy!

As usual, write to me at

No new show this week

Feb 26, 2006

Hey all! The hosting service was down on and off much of this last week. The poor "Alex Interview" has about half the downloads of usual. As it is an exceptional show, I am going to leave it up for another week. I will post the Lyndon Interview next Saturday. Please, listen to the Alex show! It is worth hearing! I am considering going to an every 2 week posting schedule, anyways. The weekly is grueling, It takes about 15 hours to get you a show every week, and interview volunteers are getting harder to come by. I've used up all the people I know who will do it, and now I'm totally dependent on listeners stepping up, or forcing their friends into it. So again, I need people to interview, and if you have Skype (it is a free download at and a microphone and earphones - feel free to write to me and we'll set something up! Thanks so much for all the support you have given this show.

Show #26 - 12/31 - Charles Interview

Jan 1, 2006 36:17

Today I pose the big questions to Charles, age 26, self described as "some geek kid". This one is very reflective and interesting to me as I worked with him for 3 years, and he was the one who dyed his hair blue and turned cartwheels down the hall, and was always the life of the party with his booming laugh! We end up in the strangest places in life, and in our heads.

So to work out the technical details, I interviewed the person most handy - Cayenne Chris Conroy, producer of the comedy podcast Teknical Diffikulties He is a multi-media artist, 37 years old. Enjoy!
