144: why the keto diet actually might suck with Dr Rach Wyndham

Jul 4, 2018 32:34

We've dabbled in low carb eating (hello low carb sweet treats are the best!) but keto has never ever been our thing because we hate counting food and we just know (call it intuition) that good carbs are not our enemies.

We wanted to chat all things keto diet because we are getting lots of people asking about it and we're seeing a new wave of ketogenic supplements (yes, another quick fix to shortcut weight loss).

Becuase we do not have great scientific knowledge in how the human body functions we asked our good friend Dr Rachel Wyndham to join us. Yes, an actual Doctor and Naturopath who spent YEARS of her life studying the human body from two very different perspectives.

We also want to put a disclaimer out right now. If you are a big fan of keto, if it's worked for you, if you sell a keto supplement product this is not a personal attack on you. This is simply us taking an interest with curiosity and questioning everything.

And if you do buy or sell any kind of 'health' product we'd suggest you question everything. Remember these guys are actually in the marketing game... so of course, everything sounds all kinds of wonderful.

We'd always suggest taking time and effort to do your own research (especially if you are selling a product) and NO not just research given to you from the people you are selling on behalf of (haha... duh).

Other stuff we talked about…

what is the keto diet?the good aspects of the keto diet.why the keto diet is not a forever the keto diet can actually do further damage to your health.why taking a supplement with ketones is a bit to lose weight in a healthy way.

Tune in, agree, disagree but also do further research.

We will leave you with our weight loss advice...

Eat real food, with lots of vegetables, good fats, good quality meats.Don't eat too much. Like actually stop when you are full.Don't eat refined carbs... every now and then eat the corn chips (or insert your fave thing) and love them!Stay away from refined sugar and processed food. Coz it's not really food!Move every day in a loving fun filled way. Even if it's just for 5 minutes to start.Love and accept yourself NOW. Not just when you lose 10 kgs.Love and accept yourself.Love and accept yourself.Love and accept yourself.

Jun 25, 2018 37:18

And if you feel like this... we get it! We understand! 133: knowing your core values will make life better

Apr 6, 2018 36:22

We've never really sat down and had a discussion about our values. So this episode is super SUPER real! All our episodes are REAL but usually, they're born from a coffee date chat and one of us will say "this is a podcast episode idea!" then we discuss again in an episode. In this #GetMerry podcast episode we literally sat down and Carla said "shall we talk about our values" and boom we hit record.  We believe it is extremely important to know what our core values are because once we know, we can align ourselves with people, jobs and decisions that match up with our values. This creates more flow, more magic, it creates steadiness and a sense of ease.  Example... if health is a core value do not work at a fast food place. If you do you'll feel a sense of anger while you are working there. You will feel a sense of dis-ease. You will feel yuck.  Stuff we talked about… we actually go through some of our core values: health, honesty, kindness, loyalty, enthusiasm, connections.  why connecting with people with similar values rocks and creates loving, magical relationships.  how awareness of your values will help you make difficult decisions.

In big big big ways.  It's a whole heap of fun, tune in! If you know anyone suffering from the perfection disease, send this episode to them!  Stuff we talked about… why is everyone obsessed with being perfect? how we've pretty much never waited till we're 'ready' and 'perfect' before starting a project. perfect is actually fake... it's made up!  how perfectionism is just self-doubt and fear of what others think of you.

131: How Carla lost 8 kilos with Yoga and Pilates

Mar 21, 2018 23:03

A must listen if you're a yo-yo dieter or calorie counter. We know you're over it. We've been wanting to tell this story for a while, so Emma decided to interview Carla and really find out HOW she lost 8 kilos from bringing yoga and pilates into her life. And how this was the beginning of MerryBody She talks about how she used to think she HAD to diet or eat a certain way and exercise a certain amount of hours per week in order to be 'healthy'. She talks about how she lost alot of weight once before in a very different way and compares the two and why it's about finding a way of LIFE not a quick overnight fix.

130: Why do we ALWAYS judge ourselves?

Mar 21, 2018 38:45

This podcast episode is brought to your by MerryBody. The 4 week Yoga and Pilates home fitness program. If you could hear your thoughts on a recording what they be saying? Would they be thoughts of kindness, compassion and love? Or thoughts of anger, hate and dislike? We've worked hard at changing our self-hating thoughts. And woah, did it take practise to turn them into self-love. And guess what though? The hate and judgement still creep in. Seriously, why do we always judge ourselves?  This episode has so much goodness. Ahhh! Stuff we talked about… how we watched our MerryBody workout videos ( and the first reaction and thoughts were HORRIBLE!  how weird it is when you think a photo/video of yourself is horrible and then in a week you like it, then a year later it's like dayum you were a babe! what we do to bring more self-love into our days. the importance of being present. The magic of presence! how the idea of 'perfection' does not exist. "The beauty myth- an obsession with physical perfection that traps a modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self-consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfil society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty. I choose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails." Selena Gomez.

119: The stories behind our new tattoos

Nov 29, 2017 19:23

We got new tattoos! Yay so fun and cool, we love them. We got a bunch of questions about them on social media so we decided to record a podcast episode about the meanings and stories behind them.  We both got exactly the same tattoos. HAHA, no we don't do everything together but yes we are super best sissy friends. It's bloody awesome. How good are sibling friends? It seriously brings joy and warmth to our hearts when we meet other siblings who are proper best friends. Yay, all of us. We are so #blessed like fo real.  Ok, so the first tattoo is the sister tattoo.  Walking on sunshine Yes, like the song! This is our sister song. This is our sister tattoo! Reminds us of being together, working hard, doing stuff we love and having fun (slash walking on sunshine ;)). It's about choosing to wake up and see the sunshine, choosing to walk on sunshine even though clouds and darkness may come into our lives.  The congruency sign We got this tattoo together with our housemates. It's a mathematical symbol BUT it also means, in agreement and harmony and alignment. It's like... to live in alignment and in harmony with our hearts. So think and speak and live in alignment with our hearts. And now... we want another tattoo each.  Carla is thinking she wants a lotus, cross rose, cross triangle and Emma wants a flower love heart thingy. Designs are in the making (in our brains and hearts).

118: our weekly exercise schedules and diets

Nov 20, 2017 32:17

We've been getting asked a stack of questions like... What exercise do you do? What do you eat? Why do you love Pilates and Yoga so much? How many classes do you do a week? You've toned up, how did you do it?  So we gathered we should just answer everything on a podcast episode, and here it is!  Stuff we talked about... How many pilates and yoga classes we do each week. What we eat. Letting go of guilty feels. The changes we've made to our diets. Why all that really matters is your mindset. How it all comes to choosing love over fear. If you love this episode you will also love... The binge eating episode.  Episode 81 and one of our most popular episodes ever. The 5 things I didn't think Yoga Teacher Training would teach me. Episode 105, it's a good one!

117: How to think and grow rich (book review)

Nov 9, 2017 37:50

We've been reading (slash listening) to the book: Think and Grow Rich and it's ahhh-mazing! We're 100% sure it's changing our lives in magical ways.  It's a self-help, self-development book written in 1937 by Napolean Hill. We know... that's ages ago but it's still super relevant. As you can tell by the title it's about growing in riches BUT it's not just about our incomes. The philosophy, stories and techniques Hill writes about can be transferred to ANYTHING. This book is about living our full potential. It gives us the tools we need to create the lives we all desire. It's bloody epic. Stuff we talk about… In almost every chapter the importance of desire is brought up. That success starts with a burning desire and knowing what you actually want.  There is no such thing as failure, it's just temporary defeat. Everything will make sense eventually. The perceived failure will, in fact, be part of the success. Woah.   The magic of persistence. The power of our mindset, how to change our subconscious belief systems.  Powerful people are the dreamers who take action and have self-belief. We can all be these people. We talk about how we can be the dreamers who take action. This.... "you are not ready until you believe you are ready". So powerful.  Unwavering faith is required. Faith removes limitations.  Time will pass anyway, why not go the extra mile and put in extra effort to create the lives we want?!  Practising quick decisions will create success.  We talk about the top 30 reasons that stop people living their potential. Listen to this list and then it's time for some self-reflection and maybe some habit changes.  Enthusiasm is a superpower. SO MUCH MORE!  Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla  Feature photo by Clark Tibbs on Unsplash

Sep 14, 2017 01:00:27

Why you should listen to this episode: if you ever find yourself thinking you should be at 'this' point of life when you reach 'this' age.  We chat with the AMAZING Rachael Jansen who shares her story on being 'ageless' and why it's more about stages... rather than ages.  This is the stuff we talked about: how women are stereotyped by their age. how women are seen (or we see ourselves) as invisible when we reach a certain age. why the term 'middle aged' is irrelevant. how our thoughts and beliefs around women and men start from our school years. why we need to start celebrating all ages of women.

Why rituals are good for everyone but extra good for people who have a biz. At the moment these are our rituals. The podcast version is better but we get it... some people prefer to read. Morning ritual: Wake up Get dressed (probably don't need this info) Apple cider vinegar and water Pilates or yoga class Coffee or chai with friends Smoothie bowl on the deck in the sunshine 10 minute meditation on the deck Welcome to blissland Evening ritual: Make dinner and eat dinner Catch up with housemates, talk about days Make cups of tea Drink tea, stretch, use mobility balls and roller Write in gratitude journal 10 minute meditation Time for epic sleep

Sep 11, 2017 51:33

Why you should listen to this episode: if you've ever thought that you need to 'be strong' when all you really wanna do is take off your mask and be real.  Amber joins us on the couch again for magical episode 111!  Here's the stuff we talk about: recognising your fears. how we tell ourselves stories like "I'm just impatient" or "I'm just..." we questioned whether being strong could be changed to choosing love.  we bang on about self acceptance and self-awareness again and we realise that sometimes we might be making excuses for our laziness.

Listen, get un-stuck, realise that the only approval that truly matters is your own. Don't worry, we've been there PLUS we still go back. Sep 6, 2017 55:44

Why you should listen to this episode: if you struggle with self-belief and wanna change that.  Amber Hawken will give you her methodology of exactly how she does this. We called it the 11/10 method and it's a real banger. This is the stuff we cover: 11/10 (how to embody the knowingness that you are INCREDIBLE).  Flow: what does it mean to be in flow? What does it feel like? Consciousness. Mental strength and resilience. We laugh a lot. Amber tells some jokes too, she's the best ever (and is our epic housemate too!).

She's a woman of many talents: yoga and pilates instructor, anatomy expert, movement therapist, she specialises in myofascial release and dynamic neuromuscular stabilisation. She's studied Exercise Science and naturopathy. We absolutely LOVED every second of this episode and were nodding along with every word she said. Here's what we cover: how our bodies represent our mind and vice versa. what a depressed body state might look like.  how mind, body and spirit are connected and how this shows up.  why the intention behind your exercise is so important. how lack of core strength is impacting our confidence and sense of self. why our hips are so tight. why pilates and yoga rocks!

104: to live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffering with Rhys Ibbott

Jul 29, 2017 02:06:25

"He had been out running and collapsed on the side of the road. No one knew what had happened and they thought he had been hit by a car so they didn't want to touch him. A woman, named Valerie was driving by and noticed the commotion around a lifeless body. She jumped out of her car in the middle of traffic and started giving CPR. When she initially started, people shouted at her to stop as she could be causing more damage, but she said she knew he needed serious help. He was lying on the ground with his eyes wide open and had no pulse, so she immediately started CPR. She performed CPR for 5 mins on her own..." This excerpt is from our guest's cousin, recapping the first cardiac arrest Rhys experienced at age 26.  We'd heard bits and pieces of Rhys' journey during Yoga Teacher Training (this is how we met) but after sitting down with Rhys for just over 2 hours, hearing his story being told so openly and all at once was... and that's where we get stuck. There are so many words to describe Rhys' story. When you listen you'll experience one, two, maybe all of these: inspiration, gratitude, compassion, empathy, passion.  This is an excerpt from Rhys, 'a former letter to myself', recapping just after his first cardiac arrest: "This event turns your world upside down, 2 days later you wake up in Hammersmith hospital and start to make sense of all the crazy things that have happened. That outlet of running and hardcore physical exercise to alleviate your stress has been taken away from you, and once you return home you fall into a deep bought of depression. You decide to remain in London, and start back at work soon after getting out of hospital going about your daily life as if nothing has happened. Denial is what seems to be at play here. You are very weak and constantly fatigued following the accident. Working, partying, and the inability to see the severity of what has happened to you causes several problems in your life. You continue to fall into a deeper state of depression and soon you decide to leave teaching for a while." You can tell just from reading this that this episode is very different to anything we've ever shared before. We focus on the story and then we get into the big learnings that have come from Rhys' experience.  Rhys goes on to finish his letter: "Have faith in your ability and always be kind to the people around you. Spend every day mastering your health and fostering strong and meaningful relationships. Your journey is only just beginning." Be sure to tune into this one, it's full of gold, just like Rhys.  Support Rhys' Everyday Hero fundraiser for Heart Care Foundation. Check out Drop Consulting: aims to enhance understanding of self, culture, wellbeing and performance. Merrymaker mantra of the week... the judge of all Earth shall do right. Which means, lead by example. Do YOU first, which will then influence others around you.  Sending out huge LOVE to Rhys for being so vulnerable and open with his story. By just you doing that you have inspired many. Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

103: 5 things I didn't think Yoga Teacher Training would teach me

Jul 26, 2017 56:25

10 weeks have passed since I started Yoga Teacher Training with Essence of Living here on the Gold Coast, that means I'm done! Certified yogi: tick ;)  I seriously can't believe how fast 10 weekends went. That's 20 days. 200 hours. Boom. Going into the training I knew I would learn a heap of stuff. I mean I was about to spend 10 weeks in yoga land... how could I not learn some cool stuff? BUT I wasn't prepared for the epicness of the learnings and the changes that I went through. From the get go, I had this knowing that I was supposed to do my yoga training... it wasn't a matter of if, it was just a matter of when. So to be able to finally go on this adventure was a freaking blessing in itself, and thank you to Michelle, founder of Essence of Living for having the belief in me and for making this happen. But let's get into the good stuff... you're here because you wanna know the surprising things I learnt BUT let's quickly cover the unsurprising stuff I learnt... (all kind of duh moments)... epic yoga technique (during the 10 weeks I did a total of 91 hours of yoga practice... that's a lot I reckon), so my down dawwwgs are pretty much #onpoint most days #10xselfbelief ;) really cool breathing techniques aka pranayama that literally change your thoughts in minutes and the physicality of your body (if you do them enough)... that's freaking cool. I'll be sharing some of these inside our next Challenge! some Sanskrit. This is the ancient Indian language that the yoga teachings are written in. One of my goals for 2017 was to learn a new language, I feel like this could almost tick that off :P. Because, Utthita Hasta Padangustasana. Seriously, that is so fun to say. Extended-hand-to-big-toe pose if you're wondering (you totally were).  how to meditate. I also got a hell-o-va lot more inspired to meditate too... because we talked about the benefits A LOT (that's like a whole other 50 blog posts). bones, muscles and all the systems of the magical human body. That I have an 'Ether' body type. Ok so this wasn't really a duh moment because I didn't really know there were different body types like: air, fire, water, earth and ether... but because this was part of the Ayurvedic day we did it wasn't a surprise that I learned this. Basically, it means that I should learn lots and focus on the big picture/creativity ;). Ok yay, for better yoga and yay for all that cool stuff... but let's get to the juicy stuff. The stuff that came out of the woodworks and hit me like a big freaking AHA! moment more than a few times during the 10 weeks.  Enthusiasm is a super power we all have... you just have to use it I love being enthusiastic about pretty much everything, it makes life way more fun and magical. I was described as 'Carla is very enthusiastic' multiple times on school reports. I remember looking it up in the dictionary in year 5. Ready for the surprise? Being enthusiastic about your goals, your life and realising your higher purpose makes it all come to reality faster. It's not woo-woo crap. Think about it. If you're enthusiastic about what you're doing, if you're truly excited and passionate OF COURSE it's going to come faster... because you're actually doing. If you were complaining, procrastinating and taking zero action, then you'll get zero results or change.  Flashback to high school when I wanted the lead role in the school musical. I enthusiastically asked my Mum for singing lessons so I had the best chance at scoring the lead. I practised every day. I prepared. I was excited and shared my enthusiasm with the Director of the show (pretty much every day until the audition :P, over kill? Maybe!).  Either way, I got the lead. Even though I wasn’t the best singer, the best dancer… I showed up with enthusiasm. Be impeccable with your words Choose your words carefully and speak only when you truly have something meaningful to say. I LOVE to talk. Em and I recently realised how many random conversations we have when we're working. It may be because we spend so (too) much time together that we run out of 'normal' stuff to talk about so we get into the weird and wonderful.  Either way, I talk a lot. So when I learnt the term 'be impeccable with your word' it really forced me to self-reflect and catch myself in moments when I was talking just because I wanted to fill the space. Usually, it was because the silence made me uncomfortable or I didn't agree with something so felt I had to voice it (why are you uncomfortable, Carla? Do you really need to be 'right' all the time?). Not judging here... just noticing, questioning. Not only is this about choosing your words carefully and using them when necessary... it's also about keeping to your word. Doing the things you say you're going to do. Integrity. That's always been a value of mine anyway, so I liked that it popped up in the yoga teachings.  It's not what you do... it's how you do it It definitely is what you do but it's definitely more how you do it. Because you can DO all the yoga classes... but are you really, truly showing up with enthusiasm, commitment, passion and giving it your all? If you're not then maybe it's not your thing. When you show up... SHOW. UP. Not with half your ass... with your full ass. Not with a cranky ass, with a kind ass. I'm not sure why I'm saying ass all the time but we have that quote hanging up in our office/lounge and I think it's kinda perfect. Let's use clearing your inbox as a fun (ha!) example. How do you usually act when you read and respond to your hundreds of emails per day? Are you like: why the frig is this person emailing me... again? I wish I had zero emails. Email is the worst. idea. ever in the history of ideas! Without a doubt, I bet if you went back and read some of your sent emails when in that cranky-ass mind space you'd surprise yourself. I know I've re-read sent emails and thought... oops, that was a bit rude slash a lot rude. And then I'd make some excuse as to why I was rude, when in actual fact I was just being rude... because. And that just ain't Merry.  Now, if I ever get in that space, I've taught myself to get out of the inbox. Abort all drafts and just leave. Even if it means I don't respond in 2-3 days, I still leave.  Imagine if you responded when you were calm and kind. Your emails would have so many exclamations and emojis (well, mine do :P) and the receiver will feel all the cozy love.  A simple example, huh?! But I know it's something I struggle with and I'm pretty sure the rest of email land does too.  Where else are you showing up but not really showing up? A question I now keep in my pocket at all times.  Detach detach detach OMG this one seriously had me talking (impeccably, of course) for weeks. It was probably the theme of the day in Merrymaker land for the majority of the Yoga Teacher Training. Not to mention it kept popping up in books, podcasts and other conversations too... synchronicity? I think YES!  I feel like the reason I wanted to talk about it more was because of how much it made me stop and question wellbeing, business, happiness and relationships (life in general). The idea of detachment is that you detach yourself from EV-ER-RY-THING. The idea of detachment is that you detach yourself from EV-ER-RY-THING. It's a weird idea that I hadn't ever thought of before. And man oh man... I was attached to A LOT OF STUFF.  Yep. Detachment from reaching goals. Detachment from people you love. Detachment from food. Detachment from weather. Detachment from everything. It means whatever the weather, it doesn't change who you are (hello, I used to complain about the cold ALL. THE. TIME... ok I still do sometimes, oops). If the cafe doesn't make your coffee 'right', it doesn't scar your day (even though today my chai wasn't as good as yesterday... eek, see gotta practise more!). Whether you reach the goal or not, it doesn't bother you. This doesn't mean you get a free pass to be lazy. You still give it all you got (note: the how you show up lesson). It means that if the plan doesn't turn out the way you thought it would, that all is well... and just know that the way it turned out is the way it was supposed to.  Practising detachment is game changer. Nothing can stop you. Nothing can bring you down. You're like water, you flow, sometimes fast, sometimes slow and you elegantly bend around the rocks (obstacles). HOW to love myself (not just the idea that I should love myself) Self love and compassion has been part of my journey from the very beginning of starting Merrymakers. I remember watching Louise Hay's documentary You Can Heal Your Life 4 years ago.  That's when I first started mirror work. This is where I'd say words of affirmations to myself while looking in a mirror. There's a bunch of other self love things I've tried but nothing had re-wired the brain pathway to default to self love.  Before I started Yoga Teacher Training I was still very much in a self loathe mindset... I'd say 70:30 self loathe to self love ratio. Boo.  The first day of Yoga Teacher Training with Essence of Living we went around the circle and said why we were here. I wasn't really sure as I waited for my turn but then as I started introducing myself, I told everyone that I wanted to learn to love myself and to ACTUALLY love myself. Not just every now but like ALL. THE. FREAKING. TIME.  I can't tell you the exact turning point of when the ratio flipped (now it's like 5:95!) but I know that practising yoga, the postures, the breathing (pranayama), the meditation and the focus on learning new stuff that I'm actually interested in all played a huge part in showing me HOW to love myself. And let me tell you...IT FEELS GOOD. Like really good.  My training for this particular course is done but just like a friend told me... now you have a lifetime of yoga training ahead.  Always merrymaking, Carla xxx

102: the anxiety episode with Jonny Yang

Jul 18, 2017 01:19:59

Jonny Yang, the acupuncturist, traditional Chinese practitioner... actually just an amazing guy. He shared a heap of magic on this episode. The thing we like the most is that all the stuff he shares comes with a bunch of action steps. Action steps to help your anxiety and so much more.  The main reason we wanted to chat about Anxiety was because Jonny helped me (Emma) with my anxiety.  Which came about from my break up. I'd never ever really truly suffered from anxiety, not like this anyway. The up all night, can not sleep for a week level (seriously, sucked so bad). I felt so disconnected from myself. I literally felt like I had a different human living inside me and she was not shutting up. She was just going on and on and on.  I used an old addiction to try help me. Exercise.  One day I did an hour of super hard pilates, walked for 8 kms and then walked for another 8 kms. The next day I did more pilates and the BOOM my foot spasmed and felt like it was burning from this inside out.   Maybe...  too much exercise?  I put up with more sleepless nights, now, not only from the alien in my head but also the burning foot.  I know there is some kind of proper term but it was like my body and mind were operating at an intense pace. When they shouldn't be. For example, when I was laying in bed trying to sleep, it felt like I had been running. My temperature was up/down. It was so weird. Intuitively I knew it was to do with my central nervous system. I've interviewed enough epic health experts on this topic from our challenges to know this is not a good thing. Judes Yang (we interviewed her here on yoga, connection and meditation) came to my rescue, first with a foot massage and then connecting me with her bro Jonny Yang.  I kind of joke about it (coz that's what I do in shitty situations) but he really did coach me out my breakup depression/grief/anxiety/whatever you call it/craziness (along with my epic family and friends and yes, I FEEL all the FEELS).  What started as a helping foot thing turned into helping me deal with anxiety which happened because of the breakup BUT actually, at the core, it was from a fear of being alone. And Jonny helped me figure this out which helped me to deal with ALL OF IT.  Anyway enough of my rambles.  Here’s the stuff we talk about… What is anxiety? What causes anxiety? Ahhh everything HAHA. How self-awareness, action and creating new habits is key to helping your own anxiety.  Zen and yoga stuff.  Acupuncture, meridians, muscle fascia, energy. Breathing. Ahhh we actually loved this!  The worry jar. Super easy exercise you can do at home. How to support your loved ones when they suffer from anxiety. How we over complicate everything when it comes to anxiety. Small changes, additions, subtractions you can make from and to your life to help your anxiety. Far out we feel bloody lucky to connect and chat with people like Jonny Yang.  We 100% recommend Jonny and the whole team over at Life Synergy. Grateful for all that they do! Check them out HERE. Book in if you live on the Gold Coast! Please share this podcast with anyone you know who suffers from anxiety if you think it might help them and remember if you need help now, there's always someone who will listen, contact Lifeline.  Always Merrymaking, Emma + Carla

101: biz and life and rambles with the Merries. Reflection of 2017 so far

Jul 18, 2017 40:47

If you're a keen #GetMerry listener (we love you) you probably already listened to episode 100. It was epic. Can you believe it... 100! Woah, crazy! Also, if you haven't listened you should listen, after or before this biz and life reflection ramble. Take your pick.  The year so far. The good, bad and probably the right word would be sad.  It was really fun doing a podcast just us two. Who really knows what we talked about, but we're pretty sure it's something like the below (probably, maybe?!). We (think we) talk about stuff like… What went awesome during the first half of 2017. What didn't. Our goal to keep everything really real on our social media, how we're well and truly over the fake crap. The new way we're operating our biz, surrendering. Devotion, it's our new thing. Plan to do everything we do with this in mind.  The break up comes up a-bloody-gain, Emma cries some. Other stuff, can't remember!  Send us or tag us in a pic of you listening to #GetMerry. Because FUN!  Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

100: shame and shadows with Karly Nimmo

Jul 18, 2017 01:29:12

We had this idea for our episode 100. Actually, it wasn't our idea... heaps of other people have done this. We wanted to get someone else to interview us. It would be a huge celebration of goodness to mark this epic 100 number. Did you catch the title? Shame and shadows. Yeh, it's full of goodness but not what we expected and probably not what you expect either (now you have to listen, yeh?). We asked our amazing, beautiful, red headed, potty mouthed friend AKA Karly Nimmo AKA the sexual dancing goddess (this will make sense if you listen and yes Karly, we are officially keeping you accountable) to do the interview. If you know Karly you know she doesn't do stuff inside the box so when we gave creative control we quickly realised anything was possible. And please note. This episode contains swear words.  So Karly rocks up to our house. We catch up (saaah fun), talk about our Merry apartment picnic happening later this same day (best kinda love fest), sit on the couch with our microphones ready and Karly throws in the topic of our conversation... SHADOWS. To be honest this was me in my head (it's Emma FYI)... I don't really even know what the term shadow means, I've heard it so much, I've read about it, but never ever have I thought about my shadows. Woah. WTAF am I gonna to say...  So it turns out I have lots in my shadows. Also turns out it feels bloody good talking about them and bringing them to the light.  Here’s the stuff we talk about… What Carla hides in her shadows, how they were 'good' things and yoga brought them out.  Emma's addiction to external validation. Relationships, break ups, ups and downs. Depression. Expectations. Pilates and yoga duhhhh.  Dancing and being a sexual goddess. Shame! Wow what an interesting topic. Let us know what you think! And also if you do the #ShameShare let us know and tag us @themerrymakersisters!  Also! We think you should also tune into episode 101 (hello Get Merry marathon!), we did a biz/life/everything reflection of the last 6 months. There was laughter and tears. It's real. Check it out right over here.   Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla Also, remember you're not alone. If you need to chat to anyone about anything you’re going through and need extra support you can call Lifeline.

99: magical herbs and chocolate with Kyle Laz

Jun 29, 2017 01:16:44

The Gold Coast is such a cool place. Most of you know we grew up in Canberra (we love Canberra) it's sahhhh different to the Gold Coast. You might think of Gold Coast, and automatically think of Surfers Paradise and partying hard. But there's so much more! And there's this polar opposite thing going on. Like with vibes, attitudes, people etc. It's interesting to observe. Like there's one side where everything seems so materialistic and fake, and then the other side with this realness, connection, yoga, spirit, holistic healthy vibe thing.  Another cool thing about the GC is the abundance of crazy cool events and workshops.  Emma met Kyle Laz aka the Chocolate Wizard aka the magical herb man at his botanical boutique high tea (like fo-realz, how could I not go to that?!).  "Herbal medicine is where you find the balance of ART and SCIENCE. It is the beginning of a path, one of learning and sharing, To alleviate suffering, the fundamental intention. Encircled in MAGIC and MYSTICAL processes." Kyle Laz We're super pumped about this podcast. There's so much magic to listening to someone talk about something they're passionate about... and even better when you know nothing about it. There is so much magic to different perspectives. Love love love.  Here’s the stuff we talk about… How plants and herbs can help you heal yo-self.  Cannabis, how the laws are slowly changing. The health benefits. We included a disclaimer about this, yay our first disclaimer on our podcast hehe. Since we've rarely talked about cannabis and also since lots of you listen with your beautiful kiddies! And we love that! But we get it, this may not be your vibe.  Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate! We also eat it! Oh, and also... apparently it helps you lose weight (we will take that!). How plants, nature, herbs help you connect to yourself, to others, to spirit or your higher self.  Power of intention.  Harry Potter pops up. Happy dance!  Alchemy.  Shamanic ceremonies. Ayahuasca in particular and how too many people are doing it without researching it. Oh, so much more! Go and listen! Ahhhh! And then come and join us for a Merry Chocolate party YAY. Like actually.  Let us know what you think of the episode! We're keen to have Kyle back on the show to go deeper into a particular subject. Watch this space! Merrymaker mantra of the week: I live in a friendly universe.  Ahhhhh we hope you can feel the love vibes.  Links to stuff we talk about… Kyle's Instagram, check it out. Kyle's delish chocolate, Supherb Chocolate. If you loved this podcast you might also like our chat with yoga and meditation teacher, Judes Yang. Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

98: how to get more confident!

Jun 13, 2017 52:19

Are you a confident person? Do you believe in yourself? Do you love yourself, your whole self? Whether the answer is yes, no or sometimes or I dunno?! We know you're going to get some gold from this podcast episode. Right now, we are both the most confident we've ever been and we're keen to keep this going and growing for the rest of our lives. So, let's talk, how to get more confident!  Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.― Lao Tzu Here’s the stuff we talk about… What is confidence? What does it mean to be a confident person?  We share our personal stories. How Emma went from 'the shy' kid to becoming pretty darn confident in herself (hell yeah). How self-doubt, fear and a negative mind ruled for many years (and how it still comes and goes).  How Carla was pretty much born confident, how school bullies impacted her negatively. How her confidence became a mask to hide the hurt from the bullies.  The 3rd chakra, the solar plexus. What it is and the things we can do energetically and physically to unblock this chakra.  How hanging out with less confident people or more confident people can influence you. But it's your responsibility. What you can do to get more confident. These are real easy and do-able steps.  To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. – Ralph Waldo Emerson Links to stuff we talk about... How social media can be carefully curated (so yeah... don't compare... ok?!). May 31, 2017 38:48

During episode 96 we go into detail about our relationship with exercise. From a super young age, to now and everything in between. And let us tell you... there is EVERYTHING in between.  Here’s the stuff we talk about… How our exercise obsession began. How exercise was always a chore for us and now it isn't. Why we stopped exercising for a year (because we hated it) and how we got back into it. The difference between exercising from a place of fear and negativity to a place of love and positivity. 87: Embrace your own authentic connection | Live interview with Amber Hawken and Wellsome Jema-Lee

Apr 19, 2017 59:36

This is definitely an explicit interview, swear words = tick! This week we chat to not one but two of our awesome, new Gold Coast friends! We've sparked quite the friendship through LOTS of good food, dancing, laughter and connection (hence the title of this episode!).  They're both EPIC-AS-GOOD humans who have so much knowledge and inspo to share with the world.  During this episode live angel card readings kind of take us on a journey of topics... but it all comes back to self-connection and truly embracing who you are.  It's an hour full of good convo and serious amounts of fun/laughter... we know you're gonna love it!  This is the stuff we talk about: Acceptance... of everything. Self-connection: why it's so important and how to practice more of it. Being honest with yourself and others. Unpacking your baggage and letting go of that sh1t. Yoga and why it's the ultimate practice to get to know yourself. Relationships and how to create meaningful ones.  Merrymaker mantra of the week: Embrace your own authentic connection. Everything we spoke about kept coming back to self-connection and awareness. They're kind of the same thing. Life is a discovery of who we truly are, peeling back all the layers and really getting to know ourselves... even though this can be a really difficult thing to put ourselves through. In being vulnerable, we allow ourselves to FLOURISH and blossom.  Links to Ambz and Jem Jem! Check out Amber's stuff over here (including her #1 book, online program and more!). Why people fail at their fitness goals and how NOT to do this. Other ways to motivate you to exercise besides always trying to hit PBs.  Comparison and how it sucks. WE talked in more detail about this topic in THIS episode.   Actual beauty, the inside stuff is what really matters.  Merrymaker mantra of the week: Don't train to get a better body. Train to be a better body. We talked a lot about exercise since Nate is a PT and we love love LOVE this mantra! It was so interesting to hear Nate talk about body image issues from a male perspective and also from a trainers perspective.  Like how he would train one person and they would look at someone else in the gym and make a comment like... "Ohhh.... she has lovely legs. I'd love legs like that" Then Nate would go and train lovely leg lady and she would say... "I really need to work my legs more, I hate them!" Take a listen to the episode and share with anyone you know who needs to hear more on this topic.

It's bloody amazing BUT we started to use it way too much and it does have a way of getting in the way of REAL life human connection.  So if you're feeling a bit off with your relationships... where are you putting your focus? The real life people or the people on your social media? Because where your focus goes energy will flow (as Tony would say!). We go into way more detail on the episode. Listen and let us know what you think! If you love it, be sure to subscribe on your podcast app. Here are the links to iTunes and Stitcher for Androids. If you love the episode we'd be forever grateful if you left us a review and a 5 star review (ok, we'll accept 4 star but really what's an extra star hehe). We're already excited about next week's live interview in da studio! YAY! Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

84: comparison is the thief of joy

Mar 28, 2017 53:16

Ok, so we just got back from recording this podcast in the studio. Before that, we had coffee and delish brunch, before that we spent like 90 minutes surfing (well floating around, trying to catch waves and getting dumped), before that we did yoga.  Yeh... as you can imagine we are 100% in some kind of Merry bliss land and things get kinda cray cray in this episode. Whoops! But we're also 100% sure there are a couple of golden moments amongst the cray cray. Surely! This is what went down in Merry Land.... The Merry News update. We are in some kind of workflow river. It's pretty epic and we are way more organised than normal so this rocks.  GetMerry recipe app update. Becuase it's our fave project. Three words: Easter Chocolate Bundle.  Beauty and the Beast. How epic the movie was. We sing, just a little bit. Also how good that Disney added the multi-cultural and same-sex relationship aspect.  LOL moment Emma talks about her wedgie slide incident at White Water World. Haha. Actually such fun times! Minus the wedgie violation.    Merry Mantra of the week In this week's episode we talk about how the answer to everything is always to come back to gratitude BUT actually, this week's mantra is Comparison is the thief of joy. This little mantra has helped us in so many ways! Whether you compare your business, your body, your family, your job, your life etc. we have a few actions steps that will help. We also talk about our own experiences because guess what... it's super easy to fall back into comparing yourself. Even when you know it is thief of all good. Yahuh.  Super pumped to bring you even more #GetMerry podcasts yewww! Next week we are interviewing our good friend Marcus Pearce. We have a feeling it's going to be a heap of fun.  Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

83: This too shall pass | Live interview with Karly Nimmo

Mar 14, 2017 01:48:21

We swear a little bit in the episode (whooooooops). We also talk over each other. But we reckon you should all go and listen! Ahh we’re super pumped to share this #GetMerry episode with you all. Karly Nimmo is an amazing human and we’re really beginning to realise that one of the best things about this whole Merrymaking journey is meeting the people we get to meet. Meeting amazing people doing different things who share their magic with the world. This episode is filled with a lot of laughter and conversation about some pretty big and important topics. We’ve kind of realised that we want to talk about the real stuff. And Karly is the real deal. We talk about stuff like… Depression and anxiety Failure Woo-woo stuff and the universe Intuition Imposter syndrome Business struggles (lack of cash flow!) Why surface level convos suck a little bit Connection and friendships Self-connection  Being you and living your truth Yoga and meditation And a heap more. Merry Mantra of the week We asked Karly to share her current fave mantra and it’s a good one.  This too shall pass. A good reminder for us all. To know that whatever struggle you are going through right now, it will pass.  But also to remember that the good times will pass too… so really stop to enjoy them.

82: because... cake (the body image episode)

Mar 8, 2017 01:04:50

This is what went down in this week's #GetMerry episode! Yes we talk about cake but mostly it's about body image. Listen!  Yay competition to win Get Merry in-a-box! Be sure to check out all the deets at Ohh we discuss our super cute cartoon-a-fied selves (yes, we just called ourselves cute) Checkout to see our video! Body image! We go a little (actually, a lot!) deeper into our body image issues past and current and the tools we use to overcome them.  LOL Moment Emma had an itchy right palm, we googled it (as you do) it means money is coming in! Yewww! Carla had an itchy stomach... we googled it. LOL. Gotta listen! #MerryFan question of the week!  Our featured question this week is thanks to Shannon! We'll be sending you a prize-y! How do you order when you are out to dinner? Do you always pick a place suitable to your diet? Yes, super simple question. BUT something that can bring a lot of anxiety. Always love talking about going out for dinny! Hehe fun and yum!    Merry Mantra of the week Because... cake (and yes this is one of our Get Merry quote cards, you can buy them in our new shop!). Yes, we touch on the topic of cake but actually, this episode is mostly about body image and the ups and downs of our journies. We both have the best body image mindset we've ever had right now. But, not because we're the thinnest and fittest we've ever been. We don't want to bang on about it here in the post. You gotta listen to get the good stuff yah! Let us know what you think, can you relate? Do you have any tips to add? Can you think of someone else who'd get a lot from this episode? Pass it on!  Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

81: gratitude is the gamechanger

Mar 2, 2017 37:01

Check out the run down from this week’s #GetMerry episode! Listen and get inspired to practice gratitude, laugh more and well… get merry!  Mum and Dad visited us and we ended up enjoying their holiday (HAHA). Salsa classes… again. Talked about our brand new Starter Kit!  Kept it short and sweet this week as we got bored listening to this section in our last episode so we gather you guys did too. Let us know if we are wrong LOL! LOL Moment Let’s just say… it’s about salsa dancing and it’s about natural deodorant. LOL moment of the week and embarrassing moment of the week (year?). #MerryFan question of the week!  Our featured question this week is thanks to Veronika Pasalic! We will be sending you a ur brand new Merrymaker Mantras as your prize! YAYAYAYAY!  How do you figure out which opportunities to say NO to? I’ve been putting my hand up for too many things at work and had a much-needed convo with my mentor last week who gave me some invaluable advice in being strategic. About which opportunities I commit to and trying to look at the bigger picture and how it’s going to benefit my future goals.  I would love to hear your thoughts on this and maybe some examples if you’ve got any? Oh this is a good one! Loved talked on this topic!  We used to be big YES YES YES people then we realised it was holding us back from what we really wanted. Then we turned into these NO people. Now we balance it all out and we take our time to make decisions.  Good one to listen to coz we all have so much going on in our lives.  Subscribe so you don’t miss out! You can SUBSCRIBE on iTunes or Stitcher and if you LOVE the episode, give us a 5 star rating and write us a merry-filled review!  Merry Mantra of the week Gratitude is the game changer. Heck to the yeeeah! We were always taught to be polite and use our manners. We always expressed our thanks. BUT gratitude is where it’s at. We 100% believe that adding gratitude to your life. Living it and breathing it will make your life better. We love this quote by Melody Beattie, we think it explains the power of gratitude so perfectly. “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It’s all about perspective really.  We’re going through this thing called life and stuff happens to us and we make stuff happen. We can either CHOOSE to be grateful for all of it or we can choose to be angry, fearful, sad, negative, cynical.  What do you think? Do you practise gratitude?

80: Look sideways

Feb 15, 2017 52:25

Just like every #GetMerry podcast episode, we start off with some Merry News as well as LOL Moments of the week. If you want a quick rundown to see if you wanna listen (oh come on... you wanna listen!) we cover: Surf lessons (ha!) Salsa classes (ooo lala!) Our satin bags for our crystal sets All the app updates and the obstacles along the way Relationships and why they're so darn freaking important to nurture Mum and dad are visiting!  LOL Moment Oh no... you don't get no sneak peek (it's funnier when you listen!). But let's just say it's defs lol worthy. #MerryFan question of the week!  Our featured questions this week are thanks to Jasmine Cooper! We'll be sending you a prize-y for your efforts and contribution! Thanks Jasmine! Jasmine not only sent us 1 question... but 4 questions! In the episode we answer: What gave you the courage to leave your jobs and pursue your bliss? What's your number one piece of advice for someone sitting at their dull and soul sucking current job, knowing what they want to do, but are not sure exactly how or what they need to do to take the leap? What book that has changed the way you think and how did it change you? How do you process your emotions? So when you're triggered, what do you do to work through the feelings and take more positive action.  Some real awesome questions and we go real deep! So tune in yah! Subscribe so you don't miss out! You can SUBSCRIBE on iTunes or Stitcher and if you LOVE the episode, give us a 5 star rating and write us a merry-filled review!  Merry Mantra of the week This is always the title of the podcast. And when we say ALWAYS... there have been 2 episodes so far where we've titled them the Merry Mantra so yeah... always :D  We've actually written about this mantra before... and it really was and is a game changer. Look sideways.  In a (macadamia) nut shell: none of us are above or below ANYONE. No one is above or below you or me/us. We’re all equal. We are all made of the same stuff (star dust to be exact… like we actually are), we all have something to learn from each other and something to share. Look sideways. Stop the comparison. Stop the judgement. There is no joy there.  Submit a question and WIN! The #GetMerry podcast is all about inspiring you to live a healthier and happier life. It’s a weekly podcast (like a radio show) where we’ll be sharing all things Merry. Podcasts are the best because you can listen AND do something else... like walk, dishes, catch trains etc.  Remember, if you want to submit a #MerryFan question just email  If your question is featured... we'll send you a prize-y! Seriously... we loves prize-ys! So be sure to listen to this episode and then submit your questions!

79: Follow your freaking bliss!

Feb 13, 2017 39:15

Today's episode was the first episode of our new way forward with the #GetMerry podcast! Yes, there was some kind of structure BUT we've already got bigger and better ideas coming your way! So keep listening YAH!  The #GetMerry podcast is all about inspiring you to live a healthier and happier life. It's a weekly podcast (like a radio show) where we'll be sharing EVERYTHING. Our new favourite part has got to be the Merry fan question section (maybe we need to re-work that title!). But this is where we need your help!  We need you to submit questions! Then we'll answer them on the show. The best bit... if your question gets answered on the show, you win a prize-y!  If you're located in Aussie Land, you'll win a set of our brand new (not released yet) Merrymaker quote cards! If you're from over the seas you'll get a collection of our delish Merrymaker PDF meal plans!  So be sure to listen to this episode and then submit your questions! Email us at! YAY! Remember, you can SUBSCRIBE on iTunes or Stitcher and if you LOVE the episode, give us a 5 star rating and write us a merry-filled review!  During the episode, we start with Merrymaker News. It's a great transition from #MerryBiz to #GetMerry as we take you through everything we're working on. We also take you through all the lessons we've picked up on during the week. We talk happiness, mindset shifts and life in general. Pretty sure we even get on the whole what is the meaning of life? topic (oh oh, haha). Yes, we ramble, yes we laugh and yes it's a whole lotta MERRY! So if you're looking for a dose of something magical each week, #GetMerry is the show for you! It's the perfect show to listen to if you want to start adding more positivity into your life. We also end each episode with a Merrymaker Mantra. And this week's is: Follow your freaking bliss. You've heard us bang on about this before. Yah?!  It's an adapted mantra by the philosopher, Joseph Campbell. And it's all kinds of magical epic. "Follow your bliss and doors will open where there were once only walls." Holy shit that quote changed our lives forever and ever. We first heard it when we watched the documentary, Finding Joe. Seriously, that is compulsory watching for anyone reading this. You will love it. But first, finish this and listen to the podcast! When we started Merrymakers, there was no strategy, no business in mind, no nothing really. We just had this something telling us to start writing and creating recipes. So we did! We were having so much fun doing it, so we did more of it. And we learned about blogging. And social media. And newsletters. Oh my! Then we watched Finding Joe. And then we realised that Merrymakers… well, that was our bliss. And this whole Follow Your Bliss concept was pretty freaking epic. And apparently revolutionary to us (even though it was all over the internet!) and so we started sharing this message out to our Instagram followers. We’d share it once a day, almost. Follow your bliss. Do what you love! Follow the fun! All the inspirational quotes you can think of. And do not scoff… we know you love them too! At this time we were still working in our full-time soul-sucking government desk jobs, seriously we need a shorter name to describe it. But the message was loud and clear. Merrymakers was our bliss and if we followed it, if we kept going, opportunities would flow right on in. It turned into the perfect kick up the butt too. We’d been sharing the quotes, inspiring others to do what they love, but here we were still working those soul-sucking jobs and not REALLY following our bliss. Not really living our truth. We were good at speaking the speak but... doing the do? We weren’t there yet. So the quitting of our jobs came about just 1 and a half years into our Merrymaker journey with no plan, no strategy, no money and a fat mortgage and USA trip booked in!  What were we thinking? We weren’t! But Joseph Campbell said that if we followed it… doors would open. (Yes, we're a bit cray cray). Oh and that they did! The day we quit our jobs, a sponsorship deal fell into our inbox. We were invited to speak at events, collaborate with others and featured all over the media. You know that flow they talk about? We were deep in it and it felt good! What also felt good was that when we shared the follow your bliss message it felt true and real. So your bliss is your thing. It’s something you love to do so much that it makes your smile from your heart to your teeth. And hey, guess what?! Your bliss doesn’t have to be a full time job thing! Don’t add pressure to yourself by saying it’s gotta be a career. By adding 5 minutes of bliss to every single day, your life will get all magical on you. Trust us. Can’t find your bliss? Um, are you looking? Are you doing? Start trying new things. Who knows if you don’t like dancing, if you’ve never danced before? Who knows if you don’t like hiking if you’ve never hiked before. Go, buy some paints and start painting. If you like it keep going, not so much? Try something NEW! Stuff the excuses and get out there and do something. Have 2, 3, 10 things you LOVE? Hell yeah for multiple bliss-es… that’s a word, right? You can LOVE more than one thing. The whole idea that you gotta be passionate about one thing is BS. There is no right or wrong way when it comes to bliss. It’s about adding more joy. So find the things that bring you joy and do more of that. Here’s a fun fact… the word merrymaker means to bring joy to! When we first came up with the name it was a super quick decision and EVERYONE was like WTF?! But now… all the dots connect, and that choice seems so perfect. Let us know what you think about the podcast episode. They're going to get better and better, we can feel it!  Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

73: 2016 Merrymaker review! The epic, the good, the bad, the blessings!

Dec 20, 2016 55:49

In episode 73 we take a look back at 2016 and the year that it was! Holey moley… big freaking year!  Take a listen! We have lotsa fun in this episode! Most loved moment of 2016? Carla:  My most loved moment in 2016 probably I’m gonna say our road trip, L.A to San Francisco it was freaking amazing and the best thing ever. Emma: There was just so many epic things that I can’t even think which one but I think it would be all the traveling combined! What was your most favorite travel moment? Carla: Most fav. travel moment would be when we went to Bangkok and we were on a roof top bar looking over the amazing city at all the lights all the stars and just crazy meeting amazing people. Emma: I think both America trips and Bangkok trip and also Melbourne trip, going to the races, going to the Melbourne cup. What about your biggest lesson of 2016? Emma: Biggest lesson would be ‘focus on joy’ like just always focus on adding more joy to your day and your projects and whatever you’re doing because, life is short and you don’t know when it’s gonna end. Like you just don’t know. So it’s like, what‘s the point of getting really stressed out about work, business, relationships when actually you don’t know your time is up? Focus on adding joy and if you find yourself being cranky, being nasty because of just a bad mood like have stuff that can get out of your funk. Be aware of what is creating that funk. Figure out how to make it get better just self-awareness of that, self-awareness of happiness. Favorite Podcast Episode? That we recorded with another person we interviewed… Emma: I think all the ones with Dan Norris because they were live, and also Mark Manson’s podcast. He was so helpful, he has this really good perspective of life stuff and to make it less sucky, he’s really awesome. I would definitely recommend going back in listening to that one. Carla: My favorite podcast episode I’m gonna say yes to both what you said (Mark Manson and Dan Norris) I agree with you. But also Hal Elrod. His episode helped so many people and it helped us as well. Favorite book you read this year? Carla and Emma: Create or Hate by Dan Horris Emma: The art of War  by Steven Pressfield, The Subtle of Not Giving a Fuck Favorite Restaurant/Dinner Moment of 2016? Emma: We’ve had so many dinners this year! Carla: Can I just combine all the bonita bonitas together? Emma: Mexican foods, mexican tacos and the best margaritas! What about overseas dinner? Emma: Phuket, in Melbourne when we went to Facny Hanks! Carla: What about Ojai when we had Pizza with Derek and Marleen under the fairy lights?! What about the Monterey… What about in New York we went to Mexican? Hardest Moment of 2016? Emma: There was a lot of struggles with direction, clarity, we made mistakes or what to focus our energy on, it’s just being a massive year of stepping up and not quite making it. We were stepping up, learning but everything kinda little but BLAH! Carla: The hardest moment to deal with has been the book. Because I thought that with the book we learned our lesson from the last book and then this book happened and I was really excited about it and then it’s just had to so many delays. Emma: You know what’s been the biggest lesson for me? No more books just stick to online. Tune into the episode as we take you way back to January 2016 the 1st of Jan. We go through everything that’s happened in Merrymaker Land. The Plan for 2017… our focus will be.. The Challenge The App doubling down on that The book Partnerships and Collaboration We wanna send out huge love Merry vibes to YOU for tuning in to our podcast this year! We can’t wait to bring you more Merry magic during 2017!

66: Live Interview with Melissa Ambrosini, Epic Chats: Relationships, Meditation, Mindset and SO Much More

Oct 25, 2016 56:54

In today’s epic episode we welcome Melissa Ambrosini back into the studio! If you missed her first episode on #MerryBiz, head back to episode 7! But this one has some serious EPIC moments that will leave you feeling extra inspired and generally amazing. If you want to be the best version of yourself you’ve got to say “yes” to you. This sometimes means saying “no thank you” to  others. Some questions we asked… What’s happening in your world? How’s work going? What’s new? Can we even call it work? What do you call it? How do you choose what you do next in your business? What about if you feel like you’re ‘full’ but you fall in love with someone who isn’t ‘full’? How often do you meditate? What type of meditation do you do? (Social Media and Email) How do you deal with making sure you’re still taking action to reach your goals but you’re doing in a way where you’re tuned in? “You can’t control what’s going to happen in the world. But you can control the way you react.” Some AHA! Moments in this episode… Following your gut is always a feeling, you can’t really logically explain it, where fear is more dialogue in your head. We can choose in every moment to react how we want to react. Why relationships are an incredible playground for personal growth. The way you cultivate awareness is by coming back inside to your true self. The power of changing your state. Why you need to learn to be fully present. “Don’t wear multitasking as a badge of honor… just be present.”

64: Get the Know How to Crowdfund Your Next Project or Business with Khierstyn Ross

Oct 11, 2016 29:13

In episode 64 on #MerryBiz we chat with our online digital advisor friend that specializes in online product launches through crowdfunding.  In fact, she's helped drive over 7 figures online through crowd funding and she's super passionate about sharing how she does it.  We had the pleasure of hanging out earlier this year on a tropical island, having fun, drinking cocktails and we are so excited to welcome our friend Khierstyn Ross to #MerryBiz! YAY!   "You’d be surprised how much you learn from screwing up." Some questions we asked... How did you get into crowdfunding? Why are you so interested in it? What is crowdfunding? Can you pinpoint the things that you think make up a successful crowdfunding campaign? Is there anyone that you look to you for inspiration every day?  What does it take to create an epic email list? "Just show up!" Some AHA! Moments in this episode… Why crowdfunding is the new age of funding a business. The importance of talking to your customer and understanding their needs. How to decide the amount of money to aim for in your crowdfunding campaign. Why you can't just launch... you need to build an audience first. Where to spend your dollars when creating your campaign. "Crowdfunding is not just a way to make money, it’s a way to launch a business."

BONUS: Create or Hate, Successful People Make Things with Dan Norris

Oct 4, 2016 51:06

We're epically enthused about this podcast episode with Dan Norris. They're always the most fun because a. we get to do them live in his office/studio, b. we go 0n all the weird and wonderful tangents and c. becuase it's THE Dan Norris.  During this chat we mostly discuss the topic... idea... no, the MAGIC of creativity. Because Dan has a brand spankin' new book out: Create or Hate. Check it out here! (for free this week!). Far out even the title is freaking amazing.  But wait, we gotta talk about that sub-title: Successful People Make Things. ARGHHH. It's like oh yeh, duh! We gotta make stuff to be successful. Yes, making things can bring in the dollars (yay) but what about the joy, fun, love, inspiration and life changing stuff these 'things' also brings? Steve Jobs made the iPhone (um epic and makes our lives a whole lot easier), Frida put her magical reality on canvas (talk about inspiration), The Beatles made music (joy, sadness, hope, love, bliss... every emotion) and Erica our old neighbour creates a garden oasis year after year, after year. Not sure about you but when we look at a beautiful garden we instantly feel happy and calm... see, magic. Just make something! Make something for fun. Make it to earn money. Make it to help people. Make it to spread a positive message around the world a billion times. This is from the back of Dan's new book...   Most of us have always wanted to make something, but for any number of reasons haven’t. Maybe you used to make things as a child, but stopped some time into adulthood.   What is that something for you? Writing a book? Creating a blog? Learning photography? Starting a podcast? Launching a business?   This book exists for only one reason, to help you create that something.   We are all creative — there is a creator in you.    But there is also a force called Hate, which will work against your creativity and stop you from making things.    Hate can be controlled, and overpowered and your creative side can be nurtured and grown.    This book will show you how.  Dan talks about all sorts of stuff we love... How negative self-talk will limit you and that your thoughts matter. The magic of synchronicity. Maybe these small signs are giving you a message that you're on the right track. Failure = course correction. Failure is a good thing, what we like to call a 'blessing in disguise'.  Gratitude is a game changer. More gratitude equals more creativity and less negativity. It kills anger and stress. You know how we feel about gratitude.  Following the flow, the momentum... the bliss.  He also gives a bunch of action steps to help you create and overcome hate.  Our key message from Create or Hate was to keep on creating. Create for fun. Create for health and happiness. And in the words of Dan... create so much they can't ignore you.

59: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F#CK with Mark Manson

Sep 6, 2016 32:02

Did you know this is the first time we've actually said the word f#ck on #MerryBiz? Woha :P hehe but with good reason! This was one our all time best/fave interviews we've done to date on #MerryBiz (actually, Carla said it was her actual favourite). Mark Manson does things a little differently when it comes to self-help. He makes you think harder. Question things. And in all honestly, he helps you just live a much simpler, better life, through the art of subtly not giving f#cks about certain things. Don't take it the wrong way. It's not about giving no f#cks. It's about choosing what f#cks to give. We go into all sorts of things during this interview, one of the best moments was when Mark said... "Wanting more positive experience is itself a negative experience, embracing negative experience is itself a positive experience." See! Made you think! And we bet it made you go AHA! Maybe you had to read it 5 times like us which is totally a-ok. It's so true it hurts. If there is one interview you listen to on #MerryBiz (oh come on... you know you wanna listen to them all!) make it this one. It will change your thoughts... and you know what they say when you change your thoughts... right? Right? We're so super pumped to welcome Mark Manson to the #MerryBiz podcast! YEW! Take a listen! Some questions we asked… Tell us about The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F#ck? How did you develop this way of thinking? What was the initial reaction to your style/thoughts when you started sharing it with the world? Tell us about the feedback loop from hell? What do you say to people who ask you "How do I find my passion?" How do you deal with failure? "This too shall pass" Some AHA! Moments in this episode… Why we need to become comfortable with the suckage that happens in life. Why feeling bad isn't a bad thing and how to remove the label and get on with life. Your ability to achieve success is directly proportional to how much failure you're willing to deal with (epic, right?). Wanting more positive experience is itself a negative experience, embracing negative experience is itself a positive experience.  There's always something to gain from any experience.  "What we end up giving a f#ck about determines our motivation and goals."

Team culture and philosophy is so important when it comes to live events.    "When it comes to collaboration you’ve got to deliver real value and ensure it's a win-win situation for all involved."

45: How to Succeed When No One Else Believes in You with Kevin Basham

Jun 14, 2016 30:37

We're SO excited about today's guest. We met him at TTT this year, got to hang out on boats and have a heck of a lot of fun. Kevin Basham is an entrepreneur who’s co-founded a 7 figure recycling business from the ground up. He managed to do this with no money, little experience and making lots of mistakes along the way. Growing up he had little confidence; no idea that all this was possible. His vision is to help the next generation of up and coming entrepreneurs and business leaders, to share his story so others can see anything really is possible. It is our pleasure to welcome our very good friend Kevin Basham to #MerryBiz! Some questions we ask….. How did it all began for you? And how you ended up doing, what you’re doing now? How did bullying impact you? What do you think is the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your entire journey? What's it like to find your passion?    “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful.” (via Eric Thomas)   Some AHA!! Moments in this episodes…. Sometimes you need someone to give you the confidence to be who you are. You cannot chase things that you don't think are possible. Start believing.  Entrepreneurship is for all but it's not for everybody. Everybody should have the opportunity go on an entrepreneurial journey. Some people just don’t have the confidence, the 'right' background or they've gone through something dark. I want to help these people.    "Motivation can come from that really really dark place."

eCourse Module 5: WEEK BY WEEK

Jun 7, 2016 09:09

Welcome to the Find Your Perfect Diet eCourse! Take a listen to MODULE 5. If you're completely confused as to how you ended up here... you can sign up to our FREE eCourse and get started! Check out Woha! 5 days goes FAST and it has been jam packed of ACTION steps. Remember, all it takes is small step after small step, action after action to create an epic, healthy, happy life. You’ve totally got this. Today it’s all about the ONE. HUGE. BIG mistake that everyone first makes. Maybe you’ve already made it? Maybe we’re getting in early so you learn from our mistake! We hope so! Either way, you’re about to hear it. IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN. YOU PLAN TO FAIL. You’ve spent 5 days finding your perfect diet. Now it’s time to implement, to try your best and to plan a way forward. No huge, big plans required. We’re talking a 1 week plan. Just 1 week at a time. This will make Your Perfect Diet easy, do-able and most importantly fun… oh, and delish! MODULE 5: WEEK BY WEEK Find a day during your week where you can set aside 30 minutes to plan your week ahead. Be sure to schedule it in your diary or calendar so you remember! Then it’s the FUN part. Choosing recipes for brekky, dinner and snacks if you need them. Here’s our tips to make your meal planning experience easy and fun: Collect your fave recipes! It might be that you create a Pinterest board, have a recipe box, or mark cookbooks with post-its. This way you always have a bunch to choose from. Use a cute meal plan to set it all out (we sent you a CUTE downloadable one in the email today!). Plan for double dinners so it serves as leftovers for lunch the next day (you could even make triple and freeze leftovers for another day!).  Mix up ingredients so you never get bored (if chicken, broccoli and brown rice sounds all too familiar PLEASE check out all our free recipes!). Go for seasonal fruits and veg as they’re normally cheaper.  Choose recipes that have similar herbs, that way you’re not buying 10 different bunches. Depending when you start your week, set aside some time to prep for the week ahead. Prepping = you save time. Because you’re only washing up once, getting bowls out once, chopping stuff once etc. etc. Don’t worry… we have prep tips too, because how do you know what to prep and what to do fresh? Here goes: Write a thorough shopping list (we sent you a downloadable, fill-a-ble one!). Make a batch of snackable items at the start of the week. Things like muffins, nut/seed mixes and healthy breads are always a good idea. Cut up all your veggies and store in the fridge. The nutritional value goes down a LITTLE but the time saving factor is worth it. If smoothies are on your meal plan, prepare all dry smoothie ingredients in a zip-lock bag and place in the fridge. Then it’s as simple as whack it in the blender, add ice, milk and blend! If you’re REALLY short on time during the week, choose to make dinners that can be frozen and then thawed. Do you have any more questions on meal planning and prepping? Ask away! Seriously, planning your week and your meals will ensure you keep winning at life and Your Perfect Diet. YOUR ACTION STEP: Download the fill-a-ble meal plan and shopping list (we sent this to you via email!) and follow our tips to create your own perfect diet meal plan. Wow! Wow! Wow! That’s Day 5 of the Find Your Perfect Diet eCourse. We have something special to give you tomorrow to celebrate! Make sure you listen! :)  Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla P.s check out the previous modules in the previous episodes!

Welcome to the Find Your Perfect Diet eCourse! Take a listen to MODULE 4. If you're completely confused as to how you ended up here... you can sign up to our FREE eCourse and get started! Check out We ALWAYS get asked “how can I stay on track?!” Today’s module is going to answer exactly that. How is your yes/no list coming along? Keep going for today and tomorrow to see if you can make connections! We recommend you keep taking notes for at least a week, that way you’ll be able to understand more of the foods that are making you feel top notch and the foods making you feel blah. But that’s not what today is about… however… it IS about connection. A different kind of connection. When we first started to implement this tool into our lives it totally flipped EVERYTHING. It not only helped with our lifestyle choices… but it continues to make positive changes to our relationships, mindset and the work we do. We know it’s going to help you too. It’s like magic… AND it’s ridiculously simple. MODULE 4: CONNECT YOUR VALUES AND WA-LAH For any change to be long lasting you need to figure out your ‘whys’. The reasons for the change and the things that will continue to motivate you to stick with it. Change is hard, yah? We humans like comfort. We like familiar and routine. BUT to create an epic, healthier, happier life change and flexibility is required.   Because we can’t keep doing the same things over and over again expecting a different result. Pretty sure Einstein said that and he is like super smart. What’s the magic tool? We’re about to show you. Making changes to create a healthier, happier life is going to cause a ripple effect in your life. It’s not just going to make you feel better. It might give you more energy to play with your kids, think of better ideas for your business, experience more adventure… the list goes on. So here’s the thing. What is your value connector? What do you value in your life? It might be family, career, physical ability, social life, intelligence… we all have MANY values, so today let’s focus on finding your top 4. Once you find your top 4 life values, then you can make the connection to how being healthier and happier will positively impact that value. Woah. Right? Dr John Demartini is BIG on this and he says, to work out your values, answer these 12 simple questions: How do you fill your space? How do you spend your time? How do you spend your energy? How do you spend your money? Where are you most organised? Where are you most disciplined? What do you think about? What do you visualise? What do you talk to yourself about? What do you speak about with others? What do you react to? What are your goals? Once you’ve answered these questions, you’ll see your values pop up. Here are some examples of how to recognise your values. If you fill your space with books, then you might value education OR creativity. If you spend your energy with your friends, then you might value socialising. If you are most organised at work, then you might value your career development. Let us know if you have any questions! Take note of the top 4 values you recognise. The values that have come up more than others. Download the Value Connectors sheet we sent in today's email, and write them in the first column of each box. Now for the interesting part. Write down how following Your Perfect Diet will positively impact your top 4 values. For example, one of Carla’s values is: inspiration and new ideas. Feeling healthy and happy positively impacts this because it allows her to focus clearly and make quick, informed decisions on what new ideas would work in her life. For you, it might be socialising. How might being healthier and happier help you with that? Perhaps it means you are more present when you see your friends. Or you have more energy to see them after work. Or you feel more confident to go out! It could be anything. There is no right or wrong way to do this. The important thing to remember is that your values will differ from everyone else’s AND they’ll often change, so this is a great tool to use every month to check in with yourself. Once you’ve figured out your values and how creating a healthier, happier life will positively impact them, your healthy decisions will have more meaning, you’ll always have the motivation to keep going. YOUR ACTION STEP: Complete the Value Connectors sheet we sent you via email and be prepared to find EPIC motivation! We REALLY want to hear about your values, let us know about them on snapchat (themmsisters).  Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla Did you miss previous Modules? Check out the previous 3 episodes!

Welcome to the Find Your Perfect Diet eCourse! Take a listen to MODULE 3! If you're completely confused as to how you ended up here... you can sign up to our FREE eCourse and get started! Check out Today’s topic is going to fast track your way to finding your perfect diet. We already know you’re ready to feel and look your best. So let’s get started! MODULE THREE: IN TUNE = SUPER-HUMAN-AMAZING Have you ever felt tired, bloated, brain foggy, gassy or just blah after eating? We’re going to say there’s high chance that you’ve felt one, two or maybe all of those crappy things. Even when you eat a 100% real food diet… you can still feel these things. Yes, definitely causes 'what the actual flip?!' moments. BUT remember, NO STRESS! You can do something about it. You can start to listen to these feelings. Instead of looking at these annoying feelings as well, annoying, start to look at them as messages from your body letting you know that something just ain’t right. Yep! Time to get in tune to create a super-human-amazing you! The most important thing is that you’re taking note of these feelings, so you can start to understand any patterns that might show up. For example, you might eat healthy nachos and feel crap, and then another day feel crap after tomato zoodles. Perhaps it’s tomatoes that are making you feel like crap? Seriously, Emma feels crap after red capsicum. Crazy, right? Over the next 3 days be aware of how you feel after each meal. Note down the meals and foods you think are making you feel really really good as well as the foods that make you feel crappy (i.e. bloated, gassy, heavy and blah). We’ve made it easy for you (duh!) with a yes/no list to fill out (it was in your email!). Do this and you are well on your way to finding YOUR perfect diet. Trust us, yours will look very different to Emma’s, whose is different to Carla’s whose is different to… oh you get it! :) YOUR ACTION STEP: Fill out the downloadable YES/NO sheet we sent you in today's email and report back to us with any interesting findings. We want to hear all about it! Seriously PUMPED for tomorrow’s module. It’s the module that makes healthy living ridiculously easy… and motivating. Intrigued? You betcha! This module is going to set you up for SUCCESS! MODULE TWO: HOW TO DO AN EPIC FRIDGE-PANTRY CLEAN OUT 2 reasons why we suggest you get rid of the foods that are crap-filled and nasty. One: they’re not good for you. Plain and simple. Two: clutter sucks. It sucks for your brain and it’s a total time waster, you’ll forever be looking for the vanilla/turmeric/coconut milk/etc! If you feel like you’re wasting food and money, we hear ya! But ask yourself this: how important is your health? Very, right? And there’s no price tag for your health. For canned goods you no longer need, your local charity will take them off your hands. Here’s 7 steps to complete an EPIC fridge-pantry clean out. Step oneGet two boxes/bags ready. One for the bin. One for items to give away. Step twoShelf by shelf, or drawer by drawer, take everything out and place it on your bench. Step threeCheck the ingredients on the back of your products, not the nutritional panel but ingredient list! Keep it simple, throw away the junk, processed and packaged ‘food like’ products that are full of nasties. Check very carefully! Some things to keep an eye out for: preservatives thickeners agents wheat gluten sugar colours vegetable oils any numbers If you see any these ingredients, it’s not good enough for you (because you deserve the best!). Step fourBin it or give it or keep it! Step fiveBefore you pop everything back in the fridge or pantry, give the shelves a wipe and think about the most logical place for the ingredients! Step sixPlace everything back into its new spot. Step seven Stock your pantry and fridge with merry necessities! There’s a basic shopping list to download below! YOUR ACTION STEP: Literally… cut the crap. Get stuck into your pantry and fridge! Download our guide we sent in your email, follow the steps and get rid of the foods that aren’t gonna be part of your perfect diet. Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla Did you miss Module 1? MODULE ONE: START HERE When you embark on finding your perfect diet, it’s hard to know where to start. What foods are out, what foods are in? That is, what foods make you feel super-human-amazing and what foods make you feel below average… aka bloated, brain foggy, dull, blaah, crap! Today we’re going to share the Merrymaker Lifestyle with you, as it’s the perfect place to start to help you find YOUR perfect diet. Our philosophy is less stress is best… in every possible way. When you live a Merrymaker Lifestyle, you eat real food. We don’t care if you’re paleo, vegan, vegetarian, bulletproof, etc. The Merrymaker Lifestyle is about adding more GOOD to your life (and your plate!). The Merrymaker Lifestyle follows super simple guidelines that make healthy eating easy and most importantly… fun and delish! The simple guidelines: Focus on filling your plate with MORE vegetables. Enjoy good quality meat, poultry and fish. Add good fats. Fat is your friend. Up the H2o. Life is too short to say no to dessert. Enjoy healthy treats every now and then (but not all the time).  We’re not going to give you an exact yes and no list, we like to focus on adding more GOOD to your plate. 44: What the Flip is an Optin and How to Create Yours

Jun 7, 2016 31:43

Today on the #MerryBiz podcast we're like SUPER dooper excited to talk about optins.  When we first started our business/blog we had no idea that we 'should be' collecting email addresses. You know we're not big on 'should be's' but collecting email addresses is definitely a YES when it comes to running any business. Yep, we don't think email newsletters are JUST for online business. If you have a brick and mortar business, sell products, services whatever it is you do (or plan to do)... collecting email addresses is a GOOD idea. From the get go. Like if you just started a blog... collect. Collect. Collect! Once you have email addresses you can send AMAZING email newsletters to these people. This allows your audience to get to know you better, you can build trust and you can provide your audience with SO much value that you'll blow them away and they'll love you forever and ever. #truestory Writing emails to your audience feels that little more special because they've said YES to you! They WANT to hear from you. Whenever we write our emails we keep this in mind, try to provide value our audience can't find anywhere else and pretty much just treat them like our best friends. We seriously love them.  In episode 44 you'll learn: What is an optin? Our journey from no optin, to first optin, to second optin to NOW. The importance of collecting emails. What to do next when you've collected an email. How to start thinking about what your optin will be. Extra links we talk about: The main link you should check out is our BRAND NEW optin.  CLICK HERE TO GET OUR NEW OPTIN If you sign up, you'll be able to go through the exact journey of a Merrymaker. Take note of what we do and come up with some of your own ideas! Of course, we'd LOVE to hear about them and help you brainstorm! Snapchat us! We are themmsisters and LOVE hearing from you! As always, questions, queries... let us know! Be sure to listen to the podcast episode and take it all in, get inspired and take some action yah! Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla

In episode 41 on #MerryBiz learn how to create an EPIC niche podcast! Because it's PODCAST WEEK! Yep! 3 AMAZING episodes all about podcasting and what it can do for YOU and the world! Today's guest embarked on a journey to learn how to trade. What started as curiosity turned into a mild obsession. He opened a $5000 account and began to trade but quite possibly the most successful part of his trading journey was starting his epic podcast, Chat With Traders. He interviews successful, profitable traders with the aim to fast track the trading learning curve. Not only for himself but every other trader. Chat with Traders gets over 120 000 every month... which in the podcasting world = freaking amazing! Welcome to #MerryBiz Aaron Fifield! #MERRYBIZ SHOW NOTES  Some questions we ask…  Can you tell us a little bit about your podcast 'Chat with Traders', how it started and what 'trading' actually means?  When did you start to gain traction and how did that all happen?  What is your exact techno set-up, your software and your processes that you actually do? How do you go about contacting the amazing people you interview? How do you monetise your podcast at the moment? What is the coolest/best thing that you’ve experienced because of the podcast? Why you should keep in touch with all of your guests after the interview.   The importance of good design along with a quality podcast.  Why you need to know where your audience is currently hanging out so you can engage with them.   How to leverage collaborations.  “Build a business around something YOU actually want to learn about.”

Almost every business, happiness and life decision involves relationships. It's important to nurture them! When you set a goal, it's not about whether you succeed or fail, it's about the person you become.  Allowing people to get to know you (on a podcast) could be the greatest business decision you make.  “Every single one of us is unique, build on YOU.”

37: How Media Coverage has Helped Boost our Brand and Business

May 10, 2016 36:12

In episode 37 on #MerryBiz we talk you through the exact steps we take (and have taken) to get featured on the media! We've been featured across multiple newspapers, magazines and TV and today we want to inspire you to make it happen for your business and brand! We’re talking traditional media like newspapers, magazines, TV and radio. These channels can still create a certain reputation for your brand, even though many websites reach more people these days. Which means that you can use these steps for everything and anything: media coverage, guest posts, interviews on podcasts, working with brands. We go into detail in today's episode but here are the overall steps you need to take to get featured in the media. ONE: make a list of media outlets you want to be featured on. Keep that list handy and always update it when you find new channels. It's a good idea to grab their contact details too if you can. TWO: engage with them online. We're talking commenting, liking, sharing their content as well as consuming their content (so you can better understand the kind of stuff they like and what they're looking for in a story). THREE: email them with an offer they CAN'T refuse. In today's episode we give you a SUPER tip which will make your pitch even more appealing. PLUS in episode 36 with Janet Murray she gives you an exact pitching strategy (yes... listen to that one!).  FOUR: follow up and follow up again. But like, don't be annoying! FIVE: enjoy yoself! Don't make this a horrible task. Enjoy the process and celebrate the moments where you are featured! We like to re-share all of our features on the blog right HERE! The difference between the people who get to realise their dreams and the people who just keep planning is one little word: ACTION. The question we get asked so much about our business is: how do you do it all? How do you get so much done?  And the answer is simple. We take action. We take small step after small step, action after action and it turns into epic results. Either that or we quickly realise our plan was crap and move onto something else where we take small step after small step... action after... ok ok, you get it. We take action. Easier said than done, right? We all get caught up on what tools we're supposed to use, or the design of the logo, or will that product even sell? Ooo we don't know, maybe we should do another survey. All this is great but nothing beats taking action to validate an idea. Nothing beats putting something out into the big wide world, seeing if people want it, then working out next steps. Sounds scary. But it ain't. Today on #MerryBiz we get together with Dan Norris, the KING of taking action and getting sh!t done.  We get into some good stuff that has seriously given us the kick up the butt we need to take action to help Merrymakers grow even more! Here's what we cover: how to create processes and why we need them outsourcing: how to start and how to decide what to outsource virtual assistants: how much do they cost and what can they do?  tools to help you automate your business the 7 day challenge that's going to give you the kick up the butt you're looking for! 19: How To Set And SMASH Goals With The Merrymaker Sisters

Mar 22, 2016 26:11

In episode 19 on #MerryBiz we take you through the exact steps we take to set and SMASH our business goals. We use real life examples and we set some goals LIVE on the show.  Download your FREE guide: How to Set and Smash Your Goals and listen to this brand new episode right... NOW! "Everyone has the potential to do something amazing. All it takes is small step after small step. Action after action." We started setting goals for our business in mid 2015. Before that we were all about going with the flow and knowing that the universe had our backs. Which is 100% true! We honestly believe that when you're following your bliss (or passion or purpose), good stuff comes your way. But we have some pretty big visions for our business and as much as the universe is there, we also have to be there for ourselves. As Pablo Picasso said "Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success."  Makes sense, right? As soon as we started to set goals, everything already flowing started to flow even better. Everything gained momentum. Instead of having our vision in our heads and hoping we remember what we need to do to achieve it... we write our BIG VISION on paper, on our white board and in trello. We know exactly what we need to tick off, by when, to get to where we wanna be. We're now on top of our revenue (holey moley!) and we have monthly goals for social media and website growth (this shows us that all that dicking around on Instagram is worth it... or not!). So yes, it's official like a referee's whistle, goals rock our merry socks. Goals have brought even more excitement to our business journey. They've brought more money to our business. They've allowed us to spread our merry message to more people all over the world. They've taken away the stress and unknown of running a business. Whether you've just started a business, you've had your biz for a while, or even if it's just a distant dream. NOW is the time to get goal setting and goal smashing. We are proof in your chia pudding that it will help you build your business in epic ways. Be sure to download your FREE goals guide HERE! Always merrymaking, Emma + Carla p.s you've got this!

15: Batching And Scheduling Will Change Your Life

Mar 7, 2016 23:31

In episode 15 on #MerryBiz we share exactly what we do to get MORE shit done in less time. Cheers to productivity! Take a listen... and for preparation for next episode... be sure to download your goal setting guide HERE! This time last year we would've said that we were the busiest we've ever been. Yep, 12 hour days filled with multi-tasking and running around like headless merrymakers. We had little structure and we worked on a 'do what we feel like' basis. Sounds appealing but... This kind of mindset and work ethic lead to lots of to-dos either forgotten or being done at the very last minute. Hello unnecessary stress! Errr yuck. And stress is not good for us.  Running a business or blog or working a high paced job does NOT have to be this way. It doesn't need to be stressful and doesn't have to cause burnout. You do not need to be the busiest person on the planet.  Fast forward to now and we're ticking off a hell of a lot more goals MINUS the 12 hour days, minus the stress PLUS a whole bunch of fun. Say what? True story. Less working hours. MORE productivity.  This year our key focus was focus. Ha! No, truly, we wanted to focus on focussing. We used to work like this:  Oh! Let's work on Project A for a day... but Project B sounds fun, let's do that for an hour... oh shiny, pretty things, look at Project C! You know what? We should REALLY work on Project Z, that's the most important.  Can you see how our multi-tasking 'skills' actually stopped our progress? 4 weeks would pass and we hadn't accomplished anything. We just had all of these quarter finished projects. According to WPCurve "Multi-tasking damages your brain and makes you dumber." Ahh. Yep, no more of that.  Halfway through this year we turned our working style upside down on top of its head. NOW we get A LOT of shit done and we want you to get your shit done too. Ready? How to get MORE Shit Done.  Shit = awesome stuff you do for your business or life that gets you closer to your goals.  BATCH YOUR SHIT. Put similar tasks together and do them all at once, rather than jumping from one thing to the next. You'll get in a rhythm and save SO. MUCH. TIME. One example: we batch our blog posts. One day we'll write, another day we'll cook and photograph and another day we'll input everything and schedule it to go live! Boom. Another example is batch your errands. If you need to go to the post office, the bank, do the groceries... then batch your errands in one outing!  Batching changed our lives and it can change yours too. The best thing is that you can batch EVERYTHING. We even batched Nashville once (but that wasn't very productive... or maybe it was).   SCHEDULE YOUR SHIT.  Batched, tick. Now you gotta schedule your batched tasks. Marie Forleo (one of our fave biz mentors) preaches "If it's not scheduled, it's not real." In other words it ain't gonna happen if it's not in your calendar! Every Sunday afternoon (in our calendar) we have the task 'ORGANISE WEEK'. Basically we both sit down, work out our tasks for the week, batch them together then add them to our calendar. Here's what our calendar looks like: Try and stick to your calendar BUT be open to change and flexibility. Don't beat yourself up if something takes you longer than first thought. We're also flexible in moving entire tasks around based on our inspiration that day.  GET RID OF YOUR SHIT. Dan Norris told us that "Deciding to work on something new when your project isn't working is not the same as giving up. It's just common sense."  Get rid of the shit that isn't working so you can make room for the shit that will. Do a stocktake on all your tasks. Take note of the things you enjoy, the things you hate, the things that are necessary and unnecessary to run your business/blog. It's fun to do this with post it notes or a giant white board.  When we did this we realised that we were spending WAAAAAY too much time trawling through Instagram and Facebook (like 3 hours a day), and with what end goal in mind? Um... nothing.  Once you've got your post its/white board done it will be easy to delete the shit! Get rid of the things you hate (unless they also fall into the 'necessary tasks' category... in that case..."learn how to delegate and automate." yep, Dan Norris said that one too... more on that when we figure it out!) and get rid of the unnecessary tasks.  Is your to-do list looking shorter? GOOD! More calendar time to fill with other things like yoga, meditation, hiking, sunshine, and cooking! All the things that ensure burnout doesn't happen in your #MerryBiz.  Batch. Schedule. Rid the shit.  Remember, we'll always have more to-dos and goals to add to that list so the most important thing is that we enjoy the journey of getting all the shit done! After all it is your life and this is it.

It's best to nail one platform... then move onto the next.  Why you need to listen to what your audience wants... not just what you want.  The importance of switching off (away from screens!)
