Brawling Brothers Boardgaming Podcast

Description

The Brawling Brothers Boardgaming Podcast is a biweekly podcast that focuses on board games, card games and RPGs. The original Brawlers (Josh and Brandon) are 2 friends who like very different types of games. The show focuses on these differing preferences and (hopeless) attempts to sway each other's opinion. Each show includes light, friendly banter, a game review (in print), a combative segment called "Brawling and Boardgaming", a check in on BGG's "Hotness" and a brief discussion of a topic that has importance to us... Well, one of us, at least. While the "Brawling and Boardgaming" can get a bit heated at times, Josh and Brandon play games for the same reason: SOCIAL INTERACTION. The Brawlers love of meeting new people, playing games with old friends and interact with gamers all around the world is the simple reason that Brawling Brothers was founded. Join us as we attempt to spread our influence throughout the gaming community, encouraging people to form gaming groups, organize events, and evaluate just how great (OR NOT) those old games that Josh loves really are. Let's hope we can agree to disagree before a major fight breaks out!

Episode 92 :: Coimbra Review

Dec 18, 2018 01:15:14

Description:

Recorded in War Room Studios - Albuquerque, NM : 12/18/18

This episode is brought to you by Power to the Meeple. One of our most anticipated deep dives of the year is our Coimbra Review from Eggertspiele. Coimbra was designed by Flaminia Brasini (Lorenzo il Magnifico) and Virginio Gigli (Grand Austria Hotel) and launched in limited quantities at Origins Game Fair 2018. In Coimbra, it's the 16th century and Portugal is thriving under its leading role during the Age of Discovery. Nestled in the heart of Portugal, the city of Coimbra serves as a cultural center of the country. As the head of one of Coimbra's oldest houses, you seek to earn prestige by deepening relationships with nearby monasteries or funding expeditions of the era. To reach this goal, you must vie for the favors of the city's most influential citizens, even if you must offer a bit of coin or some protective detail. Tune in to our much anticipated Coimbra Review to find out what Josh, Brandon, and special guest Noel think about this beautiful Euro!

This episode brought to you by Tasty Minstrel GamesBoardGameTables.comArcane Wonders & Meeple Realty.  Brandon has a little issue with a round vegetable, and Josh takes great joy in his misery.  Josh pays the piper by canceling "THEN" (bets are bad, kids.). Interviews with Lance "Undead Viking" Myxter from Tasty Minstrel Games and Evan Derrick of Van Ryder Games are the highlight of this episode.  We talk about our "advance screening" and present our Detective City of Angels review.  Did you know that Wrigley Field was originally in Los Angeles??!  We wrap up the show by listing our #31-40 favorite games... These are clearly the BEST board games (at least according to the Brawling Brothers).

Episode 55 :: Between Two Cities Review + Interview with Isaac Childres (Founders of Gloomhaven)

Jul 25, 2017 02:33:05

Description:

Recorded from War Room Studios in Albuquerque, NM : 7/25/17

This episode brought to you by Tasty Minstrel GamesBoardgameTables.com,  and Meeple Realty - Brandon starts the show in a sticky situation before describing the golden gilded canopy bed that Heavy Cardboard allowed him to sleep in during his stay at Heavy Cardboard Headquarters.  Brandon's trip to Denver involved many exciting moments including a stop at Hyperspace Arcade. Josh gives Brandon a Whisky & Scotch DATE NIGHT! We are excited to have Scott Sexton contributing written reviews to our website. "Transcend Time and Transform Your Hairline" is a great slogan that has to be used.... somewhere!  Sunwarrior Protein sponsors ALL guest appearances that Isaac Childres of Cephalofair Games makes.  Isaac answers some uncomfortable questions about Founders of Gloomhaven and agrees (at gunpoint, basically) to allow the Brawling Brothers to leave their mark on his newest game!  We wrap up Episode 55 with a hilarious discussion about "No-No's" around the board game table.

This episode brought to you by Tasty Minstrel GamesBoardgameTables.com and Meeple Realty - Our guess was our fans could introduce our episodes better than we could, and we were right!  Our first ever fan introduction contest went out without a hitch and we're certain you all will enjoy it!  Robert Baratheon warns that Winter is coming and we verify that neither of the guys can spell hiatus.  We had a record month in September and its all because of YOU (yes... you). Josh does what Josh does best and talks about food.  We discover that Brandon has a special place in his heart for the puNkin spice.  Man Bear Pig TShirts are available for order, and we want you to wear our colors! ORDER NOW or Man Bear Pig will haunt your dreams. Our Essen 2016 preview is always a favorite segment and we take time to cover many of our most anticipated titles, including a handful of expansions that will make some of our favorite games even better!  We close up with episode with an outstanding interview with Ms. Stephanie Straw.  Stephanie provides an interesting prospective of the Boardgaming world from the eyes of a female, drinks REALLY expensive wine, and insists she should have done better during the Rapid Fire round.

This episode brought to you by BoardgameTables.com and Meeple Realty - A fun filled episode, RIDDLED with mistakes (Gotta catch em all!) - Our summer travels are quickly winding down and we attempt to shake the rust off.  As a welcome back gift, Josh plays a joke on Brandon and he needs new ear drums! Josh makes sure to check in on all embarrassing iTunes reviews, including one from j5ldh.  Can anyone tell us what a Luscious Delectable Helicopter is?!  Our 4th of July celebrations are proceeded by Brandon's 95th birthday!  We check in on our BGG Guild and - What's this?!? - the heathens (brawlers?) are calling for a  Solo Josh episode??? Then is crusty and musty in a SUPREME way, and begins with a supreme theft!  We delicately explore the phallic tendencies of Mare Nostrum & consider writing a jingle for our friends at Asmodee.  In questions from a hat we discuss our favorite gaming accessories, compare video games to board games, name our favorite 6 player games and proudly proclaim our favorite podcasts (board gaming and otherwise).  As with every 10th episode, we wrap up with a bleep filled outtake roll from the previous 10 shows - If you don't laugh, we owe you a churro!

This episode brought to you by BoardgameTables.com and Meeple Realty – Another leather couch session begins in War Room Studio B as the guys fill everyone in on their International Tabletop Day experience (better late than never!) and congratulate the party hosts on welcoming a new gamer into the world!  Brandon and Josh meet a (nother) local podcaster and decide that Albuqueque has become a hotbed for podcast creation. Josh covers the old (but not so crusty) Warrior Knights during his “THEN” segment, both guys get a chance to play a grail game and talk about it during “NOW” and discuss some smoking hot Kickstarter projects in “TOMORROW”.  The investigation continues into the strange transmission recieved during Episode 26 from “Mister M” – A few new details have been discovered and are shared with the listeners, though it’s clear that help will be needed to figure out what is going on.  Broom Service has monopolized the gaming nights of the Brawling Brothers for the last few weeks and they tell you what they think in their Broom Service review.  The guys finish up the episode by taking Questions from a Hat – Intern Lexi makes a special extended appearance and the Brawling Brothers officially envision the unofficial BrawlCon.

This episode brought to you by BoardgameTables.com and Meeple Realty - We begin this episode by paying thanks to the huge cast of contributors that submitted content for our 1 year anniversary episode.  The episode was a huge hit and we want to thank each of you for taking the time to contribute.  A collective #DING for everyone who was involved!  One of our listeners has started a chair fund to buy Brandon a new chair, since he continues to whine about his current accommodations!  Josh reflects on HeroQuest in THEN, and Brandon brings HeroQuest Classic to his attention.  In NOW we confess that there is a shiny copy of Star Wars Rebellion sitting on the game table, touch base on Josh D&D campaign, and discuss how Takenoko is a great game to introduce children to.  Our TOMORROW segment features two great new kickstarters that are worth your attention; Cavern Tavern and Expedition: The Roleplaying Cardgame.  We review Clash of Cultures, and civilization building game by Christian Marcussen.  We close out the episode talking our Top 10 Games of ALL TIME with Jamie Keagy of The Secret Cabal - and put him through the ringer in our Rapid Fire Round!
